January 2015 Issue Since 1954 Oklahoma City Ski Club Happy New Year... A New Beginning! I hope your Christmas holiday was full of food, family and fun. Now it’s time to make resolutions.. Oh you don’t do that? Well, I seem to do it every year and forget what they are by the end of January. So let’s start some easy ones for the 1st quarter. Resolution #1 – Go on a ski trip. I’m going to Wolf Creek and Crested Butte. Resolution #2 - In the 2nd quarter, how about going on the last ski trip, you know the one in April that’s closing weekend at Copper? If you get your taxes done on time, you can use your refund for extra spending money. Resolution #3 - Okay, so a resolution for 3rd quarter would be go to a baseball game or on the river trip with the Ski Club and then... The resolution for the 4th quarter…you guessed it! Go on the December ski trip! See? That was easy! okcskiclub org Ski Club Members, Family and Friends! I want to say many thanks for your support of the club this season. Five of our trips are a sellout! The last trip of the season still has some spots open which will be the 1st part of April, so it is still a little early to think of Spring like skiing. Do keep this trip in mind, as it will be a very fun time. The officers and committee persons have all worked hard to make the lineup of trips the best they can be. All folks that are going on a trip or have already been, enjoy and talk up the good time you have had! Come to the SNO’s, the general meetings and especially a trip! Thank You again and again for helping make this club very special! The perfect way to say goodbye to winter! Trip Captain: Bette Wood 405-229-4236 • woodcrei@yahoo.com KeyStone - Trip Recap On Wednesday, December 10th, a brave band of intrepid skiers and boarders got on the bus at the OKC airport and ventured up into the mountains to see what joy the early winter would bring us. On Thursday morning, we arrived at our luxurious condominiums, the sun was shining and lift tickets were in hand. Some were even about to start their first day ever of skiing. With access to five different resorts, our intrepid group of early season adventurers spread out over Summit County to find the best groomers, open trails and snow. We searched Breckenridge, Keystone and A-Basin. Not getting enough during the day several of us continued the search for a perfect run well into the night with the enchantment of night skiing. Even if the snow was not perfect, it certainly beat any day at work. Moreover, with smiles and laughs we skied together, met for lunch and lounged in the hot tub. Then with only one day left to ski and the wine and cheese drunk and eaten, we went to bed a little sadder on Saturday night. (Except for Navy fans, we rejoiced in a victory over Army earlier that day.) However, when we awoke on Sunday, the mountain greeted us with six inches of fresh powder to slam. With new runs open and fresh snow still coming down, we attacked the mountain with zeal. The snow made us tired and we gathered at the bus to return, but the magic of the mountain lingered. We were sad to leave, but all glad we had come. So far it was definitely the BEST trip of the 2014-2015 Winter. For all who came, thanks for the great times and better memories. For those who didn’t, the snow is great already, so sign up for a trip and make your own memories with the best group of people in Oklahoma City (and the rest of Oklahoma, and even parts of Texas). Ben Stickler • 850-982-6551 or benjamin.stickler@att.net Wolf Creek - # 2 If you haven’t been to Wolf Creek in awhile, that’s too long! WC continues to be a favorite among the beginners (so much powder means it doesn’t hurt as much when you fall) and the tree skiers. This season, Wolf Creek has added a new lift for those skiing the Waterfall area that allows for faster, more convenient access to the base of the mountain. Also, we have moved our lodging back into town directly across from the natural hot springs. You must experience the springs to believe me when I say they’re a perfect way to relax and heal your body at the end of a long day. We only have a few spots left, so call me ASAP to jump on! Trip Captain: Stefanie Fields 627-3940 or stefski@att.net Crested Butte - # Fsa 2015 3 January 28, 2015 to February 2, 2015 Thank you to all the wonderful folks that have signed up for the race trip. Flatland Ski Association, doesn’t that sounds cool? Being cool will be our job at crested butte. We will ski, race, ski, happy hour, ski, support the race we are not in, ski and get a bit of sleep at night. Sound like fun, yeah!!! Happy to say the trip is a sell out! We are going with a full bus. Watch for us on the 5 o’clock news, we probably won’t be there! Espn sports, not!!! Oh well, we will be proud of ourselves on the mountain. Wish us the best, we will need it. We are going for #1, 1st place this year 2015, we were 2nd last season at Steamboat Springs, only missed 1st by a smidgin.
