Word of the Week
Students need to learn how to spell the word and learn its meaning. They can try to use the word
correctly in ANY written work in ANY subject to receive a positive stamp in their planner.
Bodacious
/bəʊˈdeɪʃəs/
1.
Remarkable; prodigious
2.

Students can also choose to use the Word of the Week outside of school – for example they can take a
screenshot using the word correctly in a text message, Facebook message or a tweet! The screenshot
must be emailed to extremereading@coxgreen.com
The students are responsible for showing the Word of the Week in action and asking for stamps!

Princes Trust Group Plan the Allotment
Jordan Joel (Year 10) is involved with The Princes Trust project at
school. The team is currently working on a business initiative using
an area of the school grounds.
The plan is to develop an unused area of the school and turn it into
a flourishing allotment. The team plans to grow vegetables, which
in turn, they will sell and make the project into a profitable
enterprise.
The project requires the group to plan the plot from scratch;
measuring and drawing out the area, consider the planting and
equipment costs, and then discuss and decide together which
plans are the best to work with.
Jordan Joel on the site between
the dome and the pre-school,
where the allotment is planned to go .
Jordan says, ‘It’s a challenge because we have to create a plot and think about the budget, which is
something I have never done before. It's good [the project] because we work together as a group”.

Bay of Naples Geography Trip 2015
A non-stop trip was organised for the Geography GCSE students to the Bay of Naples. The students flew
into Naples, walked around the town of Sorrento, visited Mount Vesuvius—the most densely populated
volcano in the world, explored the ash buried town of Pompeii and saw the
preserved stone people, had a guided tour of the
Flavian Amphitheatre in Pozzuloi and they also had a
chance to visit the Archaeological Museum of Naples.
Even birthday celebrations were factored into the
itinerary! Everyone had a fantastic time.

Cordon Bleu Cookery Courses
— Cox Green Style!
Worried about leaving home? Or
starving at College or University?
Don’t be! As part of the sixth form
Careers and PSHE programme Year
13 students were given the
opportunity to learn how to budget
and cook.
Given the raw ingredients of beef or
vegetarian mince, a can of tomatoes and some spices and pasta plus the shopping receipt for everything,
they came out with six dishes worthy of a Master Chef contestant - plus
the added bonus of knowing how much each portion cost to make and so
how many people they could have around for dinner based on the money
they had to spend. Nutritious, healthy and filling meals on a budget!
Berkshire Apprenticeship Adventure 2015
13 Year 11 students spent Friday morning at the Coppid Beach
Hotel in Bracknell on an Apprenticeship Adventure.
This was a fantastic opportunity to learn about apprenticeships
and the options available to them. 55 exhibitors were in
attendance, some of those were actively seeking to employ
students.

COHESION
And now, for my next trick,
we will be using nails…..
The group were set a challenge; one nail set in a
block of wood must balance the remaining 12
nails, with no extra materials…in 10 minutes!
Did I notice anything about the nails?
What is the future for Cox
Green School?
If I can just get this to
balance…I’m sure there is
a meaning to all this...
All the nails are different colours, but essentially
are the same… Just like the nail exercise, we
all rely on each other… We want everyone to
respect each other fundamentally, as human
beings and students at this school...

Gothic Horror Story Openings
I was in the English Department today, in Ms Mirkovic’s class, and had the
good fortune to listen to the Year 9 English lesson whilst I was working. The
students had been looking at writing novels in the Gothic Horror style.
Karmela Baumgart read out the paragraph that she and Francesca Di Cioccio
were working on. It was spine tingling from the beginning and I was drawn
into it right from the start, so I asked if I could share it with you all:
As he rinsed his long scaly fingers, a drop of red hit the porcelain basin
discolouring it. He left no trace in the hotel room, but beneath his fingernails
lay the proof. He buttoned up his grey trench coat and adjusted his bowler
hat, picked up his possessions and left the room unnoticed…
All I can say is “Move over Bram Stoker”!
The Editor
Gold at the Regional Sportshall Final
I was selected as one of a team of
seven to represent Berkshire in
the Under 15 age category of the
Sportshall South Regional Final
athletics competition at Burgess
Hill.
As a team we scored 673 points –
the highest score by any team in
the last 10 years and it is the only
time in those 10 years that the
top three places in the overall all
rounder competition have been
filled by athletes from the same
county.
We now go on to represent the South East at the National Final in Manchester in April.
Hopefully we will do well!
