I compared different European legal approaches concerning FGM, then I
conducted a qualitative research (in-depth interviews) involving African
people living in Italy (and some of their children, who are born here) in
order to gather their points of view about FGM. My aim was to put into
discussion the rhetoric of “good-for-women West Vs. chauvinist Africa”,
showing how everything is more complex when it comes to social norms
over bodies

ACTIVISM
FEMINIST AND LESBIAN
For about eight years I was part of a radical lesbian and feminist
association in Padua, called Drasticamente (meaning “drastically”).
Beside the political activism we organized political and cultural meetings
and workshops, we ran a help line and for some years we ran an open
bar for lesbian women and friends once a week.
I also worked with some other lesbian and feminist collectives in Padua.
7
QUEER AND ANTI-SPECIESISM
I am now part of a collective project in Vicenza, called Ada Lab a safe
space where we share thoughts and practices about issues as queer,
veganism and anti-speciesism, open source software and do it yourself
politics.
RESEARCH AND EDUCATION
I am one of the founders and vice-president of a newborn organization
called Laboratorio Zoe which deals with gender and migration issues. In
2014 we will lead our first educational lessons about gender and gender
violence in a secondary school in Venice.
BROADCASTING
During the last three years I have been running a radio programme with
some friends for a local broadcast. The programme is called “Giù al
Nord” (Down in the North) and deals with current issues such as
migration, labour rights, international relations, gender and lgbtqi issues.
My main focus is on the latter.
