COMPETITION ANNOUNCEMENT 2014
INTRODUCTION AND PURPOSES
The “Roma Tre” University Department of Law, with the sponsorship of Consiglio regionale del
Lazio and Assessorato alla Cultura, Creatività e Promozione artistica di Roma Capitale of Roma Capitale,
presents the first edition of “Diritto al Corto – Festival del cortometraggio socio-giuridico”.
“Diritto al Corto” aims at promoting a discussion about topics that play a central role in the
public debate and that imply a strong relationship with juridical, conceptual and linguistic
instruments.
Examples may include: organized crime, so-called euthanasia, environmental protection, violence
against women, work related injuries, child labour, precarious employment, places of detention,
same-sex marriage, illegal immigration, voting rights for immigrants, racial discrimination,
homophobia, adoptions, abortion.
If legal language runs the risk of becoming, as Italo Calvino said, a real “anti-language”, the
evocative strength of an image or a story can compensate its technicism, empowering the
fundamental contribution of law in solving social and moral matters.
The Festival, requiring that university students, Phd students, post degree students, students of
Institutes and Schools of Cinema actively contribute to the realization of the short film, intends
to endorse the role of University as a place of education and give to the creativity of young
filmmakers the exposure they deserve.
