Seldia - Executive Director
Seldia is looking to recruit its new Executive Director. We are looking for a candidate who will develop
and drive Seldia’s strategy to increase visibility, maintain existing networks and build new ones with
all relevant stakeholders and coordinate sound regulation and public policy in Europe. With strong
interpersonal skills and a real team spirit, the new Executive Director will be responsible for managing
a small but solid office and team. We seek a leader who can build consensus among the members,
promote the sector and further develop Seldia’s advocacy plan.
The Role
Based in Brussels, Belgium the Executive Director will be the voice of the direct selling industry as
represented by Seldia in all contacts with EU stakeholders and media in Brussels. S/he will executive
Seldia’s objectives in compliance with the mission statement and will position Seldia as the main
advocate of direct selling in Europe. S/he will understand the way in which direct selling companies
operate, understand the legislative needs and commercial challenges faced by direct selling companies
and manage a small but effective team.
External
The Executive Director will :
 Promote a positive image of the direct selling industry and of its Codes of Conduct by
initiating dialogue and lobbying on direct selling issues in all European institutions, with
consumer and trade associations, with the academic community, and with media.
 Develop and implement a long-term strategy aiming at a better recognition and
understanding of the direct selling industry.
 Take initiatives aiming at improving Seldia’s visibility in Brussels and elsewhere in Europe.
 Develop strong working relationships with appropriate organisations and other EU trade
associations having common interests with direct selling.
 Represent Seldia in meetings, conferences and other events in order to convey the its’
positions, with the support of the Director of EU Regulatory Affairs.
Internal
The Executive Director is an ex officio non-voting Member of the Board of Directors and of all bodies
of the association, including Committees. As such s/he acts as the Committees’ Rapporteur and as
the interface between the Board of Directors and the Committees.
As such, s/he will :
 Elaborate Seldia’s yearly Action Plan, and be responsible for its implementation after it is
approved by the General Assembly.
 Support and coordinate the work of Seldia’s bodies; ensure that their actions are adequately
implemented.
 Analyse any legislative projects and draft position papers affecting direct selling.
 Develop and maintain good relationships with all the members, with the support of the staff.
 Be responsible for the financial administration of Seldia, with the support of the Director
Internal Affairs.
 Manage the staff.
Person Specification
The ideal candidate will have:







senior professional leadership experience
Some background experience in direct selling and/or in retail would be an asset
The ability to interact and work effectively with many people at different levels
Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to effectively promote and
advocate Seldia and its’ offerings
Perfect fluency in English (written and spoken) plus (ideally) one other Continental European
language
Ability and authorization to work in Europe, from a Brussels, Belgium office
The ability and willingness to travel with seasonal variability up to 15%
