The mission of Elmhurst School for Dance is to provide a world-renowned centre of
excellence for the training and education of dancers for Birmingham Royal Ballet and other
national and international dance companies. This includes giving students a sound
knowledge of allied dance genres, a quality academic education and a principled, caring,
living and working environment, all combined to provide a solid foundation for their life-long
learning.
Elmhurstダンススクールは、バーミンガム・ロイヤルバレーをはじめとする英国内外のダン
ス団のためのダンサーを育成・教育する、世界に名だたるダンススクールとなることを、教
育方針として掲げています。つまり、当校で学ぶ生徒に、関連するダンス・ジャンルについ
ての確かな知識を与え、質の高い教育を施し、高潔で思いやりのある生活や就労環境を与え
ることを目指しています。

Lower School Curriculum for Students Aged From 11 to
16:11歳から16歳までの生徒のための、ロウアースクール履修内容
Throughout the five-year course of study in the lower school the intensity and expectation of
achievement increases year by year. However, the main aim endorsed by the Artistic
Director and all staff is to nurture the love and passion for dance in all students, and
encourage and develop the freedom and exhilaration of movement aligned with the
principals of classical ballet technique.
ロウアースクールに在籍する５年間には、年々トレーニングの内容が濃くなり、期待される
レベルも上がっていきます。しかし、芸術監督をはじめ教職員全員が一番の目的としている
のは、全生徒にダンスに対する愛情と情熱を育むこと、そしてクラシック・バレエの技術原
則に沿った、自由で爽快な動きが出来るように促進、育成していくことです。
The emphasis of this course is to provide students, through intensive and dedicated training,
the opportunity to lay the groundwork to become exceptional classical dancers. Students are
assessed at regular intervals. The assessment procedure is clear and fair. Assessment
policies and procedures are available to all students.
このコースのポイントは、集中した専門的なトレーニングを通して、生徒が優れたクラシック
バレーダンサーとなる土台を作ることです。生徒の力の伸びを見るため定期的な評価が行われ
ますが、評価手順は明確かつ公平で、評価方針と手順にはどの生徒もアクセスできます。
Graduate dance students today, as well as being beautiful classical dancers, have to be
versatile and be able to meet the extraordinary demands placed on them by the diverse
repertoire and choreography of all major classical ballet companies. For this reason Elmhurst
students train in many allied dance styles principally including contemporary and jazz.
最近の卒業生たちには、クラシック・バレエが美しく踊れるだけでなく、多才であることも
求められています。多くの大手クラシック・バレエ団の膨大なレパートリーや振り付けに対
応できなくてはなりません。そのため、Elmhurstの生徒は、コンテンポラリーダンスやジャズ
を中心とする数多くのダンス様式を学びます。
Throughout their training students are given performance opportunities in the School’s
productions in its own specially designed theatre and other venues. Lower School students
may, from time to time, be selected by Birmingham Royal Ballet to appear in their
productions at the Hippodrome Theatre in Birmingham and on National Tours.
All lower School students are encouraged to enter for the annual Choreographic Competition
the finals of which are performed to an invited audience in our Elmhurst’s own theatre. Year
11 students are coached to enter the School’s Solo Competition. Upon completion of the fifth
year of training students have an automatic audition entry, if they so wish, into the Upper
School course.
トレーニングの期間を通して、生徒には、特別にデザインされた校内劇場、その他の会場で
催される発表会で演技を披露する機会が与えられます。ロウアースクールの生徒が、バーミ
ンガム・ロイヤルバレー団に抜擢され、バーミンガムのヒポドローム劇場での公演や、国内
ツアーに出演することも、しばしばあります。毎年開催される振り付けコンクールにはロウ
アースクールの全在校生が参加を推奨され、その決勝戦はElmhurstの校内劇場で招待客の前
で繰り広げられます。Year11の生徒は、当校のソロ・コンクールに挑戦しますが、それに向
けて特訓を受けることになります。ロウアースクールで５年間トレーニングを積んだ後は、

Upper School Curriculum for Students from age 16
16歳以上の生徒のためのシックスフォーム履修内容
Elmhurst School for Dance aims to produce excellent classical dancers with the emphasis
on purity of line, musicality, artistry and a strong technique. Most world class classical ballet
companies have a repertoire which includes strong elements of all dance disciplines. It is not
sufficient for dance students to be proficient in classical ballet alone. For this reason
Elmhurst offers a comprehensive programme to include Contemporary, Jazz and Flamenco.
The classical ballet curriculum is supported by Mat Mattox based jazz technique and
Cunningham/Graham based contemporary technique.

秀でたクラシックバレエ・ダンサーを育てることを目指しています。世界一流のバレー団の
大半に、様々な分野のダンス要素を取り入れたレパートリーがあるため、クラシック・バレ
エだけに秀でているのでは不十分です。そのため、Elmhurstでは、コンテンポラリー・ダン
ス、ジャズ、フラメンコなどを含む、総合的なプログラムを学びます。クラシック・バレエ
の教科に加え、Mat Mattox流ジャズ・テクニックや、 Cunningham_Graham
流のコンテンポラリー・テクニックも学べるようになっています。
Students also study intensively Pas de Deux, Solos, Upper Body for male students, Pointe
Work for female students and, in conjunction with Birmingham Royal Ballet, Repertoire.
Students are assessed in their dance studies at regular intervals. The assessment
procedure is clear and fair. Assessment policies and procedures are available to all
students.
さらに、男子生徒はパ・ド・ドゥ、ソロ、アッパーボディを、女子生徒はポワント技法を集
中して学び、バーミンガム・ロイヤルバレー団と共にレパートリーを練習します。生徒の力
の伸びを見るために定期的な評価が行われますが、評価手順は明確かつ公平で、評価方針と
手順にはどの生徒もアクセスできます。
Sixth formers study for the National Diploma in Professional Dance or the 2 year certificate,
awarded by Trinity College London. The Diploma is a level six qualification, which is
recognised on the new Further Education Qualification Framework as the vocational
equivalent of an honours degree. It consists of modules that are assessed both internally
and externally and moderated externally throughout the three year course.
シックスフォームの生徒は、ロンドン・トリニティカレッジが認定するプロフェッショナル
ダンスのディプロマ資格（National Diploma in Professional
Dance）もしくは、２年間の履修証書の取得を目指して学びます。このディプロマはレベル
6と呼ばれ、大学の学位に相当する職業資格として新継続教育資格制度の中で認められてい
ます。モジュール制で、校内および校外からの評価が行われ、３年間の履修期間を通じて外
部機関による管理を受けます。
Students auditioning for this course are accepted for their physical facility, technique and
musical aptitude. In their final two years of training students may be selected to dance with
Birmingham Royal Ballet in its productions in Birmingham and on National and International
tours.
このコースへの入学オーディションでは、体つき、技術、音楽的才能をポイントに選考が行
われます。１，２年生のうちに選ばれて、バーミンガム・ロイヤルバレー団のバーミンガム
公演および国内外での公演に参加することもあります。
All Upper School students are intensively coached on a one to one basis in preparation for
entering the annual Solo Competition the finals of which are performed to an invited
audience in our theatre. Additionally the students are encouraged to produce a piece of
choreography to be performed in the School’s annual Choreographic Competition. During
the last two years of study students may be selected to perform in various outreach
programmes. This gives students valuable performance experience Birmingham Royal
Ballet’s Learning Department are now recruiting sixth formers to assist in their Schools
Outreach Programme.
シックスフォームの生徒全員が、毎年開かれるソロコンクールに向けて、１対１の集中指導
を受けます。このソロコンクールの決勝は、当校劇場に招待客を招いて行われます。加えて
、生徒は当校の年次振り付けコンクールで振り付けを披露するよう奨励されます。在校中の
最後の２年間には、選ばれて各種の外部プログラムに出演することもあり、生徒にとっての
貴重な舞台経験となります。バーミンガム・ロイヤルバレー団のラーニング部門は現在、地
元の学校を巻き込んだスクール・アウトリーチプログラムを支援するシックスフォーム生を
募集しています。
Graduates are given guidance, during their final year, on preparing their Curriculum Vitae
with appropriate photographs, DVDs and portfolios prior to auditioning for professional dance
companies.
最終学年在籍時には、プロのダンス団へのオーディションに向けて、履歴書や写真、DVD
、ポートフォリオなどを準備し、それに対する指導を受けます。
Academic Studies 勉学：
Students for whom English is not their first language 英語が母国語でない生徒
(EAL – English as an Additional Language / EAL 外国語としての英語)
Wherever possible, depending on competence in English, EAL students at the school are
integrated into normal academic lessons following the same curriculum as their peers.
Specific support is provided by the EAL teacher. In certain cases EAL students may focus on
a reduced number of subjects at key stage 4. In the upper school EAL students may not
study traditional AS or A2 subjects but follow a structured programme of study with the EAL
specialist. Students are encouraged to take EAL examinations where this is considered
appropriate.
英語能力にもよりますが、EALの生徒にもできるだけ一般生徒と同じ履修内容で一般教科の
授業を受けていただきます。EAL教諭が個別支援を提供します。場合によっては規定の履修
教科数を減らし、限られた教科を集中的に学ぶこともあります。シックスフォームに在籍す
るEAL生は、通常のASあるいはA2教科を履修せずに、EAL選任教師の下、体系立ったプロ
グラムにそって学習することもできます。適宜EALの試験を受けるよう奨励されます。
A non-verbal reasoning test (NVR) is administered once the students have been selected on
artistic potential. This test is entirely language free but can give us an indication of a
student’s academic potential. This information is used to plan an appropriate curriculum.
Further tests of language competency are carried out on entry. These tests advise the level
of support required to enable the student to access the curriculum.
芸術的素質を認められ入学を許可された生徒には、非言語論理試験（NVR）が課されます
。これは全く言語を用いないテストですが、生徒の学問的素質がある程度分かるため、履修
内容のプランを立てるのに用いられます。入学に当たっては更に語学能力試験がありますが
、この試験は生徒が各教科を履修していく上で、どの程度のサポートが必要かを見極めるた
めに実施されます。

The Boarding Structure at Elmhurst
Elmhurstの学生寮の振り分け
There are five boarding houses, four of which are on site.
当校には学生寮が5つありますが、そのうち4つは学校の敷地内にあります。
Fischer house: Fischer House is home for the Year 7 boys and girls and some Year 8 boys.
Fischer寮はYear7の男女生徒および、Year8の男子生徒の一部用です。
Mortimer House: Mortimer House is home for the Year 8, 9, 10 and 11 boys.
Mortimer寮は、Year8、9、10、11の男子生徒用です。
Park House: Park House is home for the Years 7, 8 and 9 girls.
Park寮はYear7、8、9の女子生徒用です。
Hetherington: Hetherington House is home for the Year 10 and 11 girls.
Hetherington寮はYear10とYear11の女子生徒用です。
Sixth Form シックスフォーム
Lyndhurst: Lyndhurst is off the main site and is home for the 6.1 students.
Lyndhurst寮は当校の敷地外にあり、シックスフォーム１年生用です。
Boarding Staff 学生寮職員
Each boarding house is staffed by a House Parent and Assistant House Parent team, Park
House also has a Resident Assistant. In addition, nurses are on duty throughout the day and
on call during nights to manage medical call outs.
各学生寮には、寮母１名と、副寮母１名がおり、Park寮には、住み込みのアシスタントもい
ます。当直の看護婦が昼間は待機しており、夜間も緊急時の呼び出しにいつでも対応できる
ようになっています。
