• Equity: Climate change affects all of us, especially those of
us who have the least
• Caring About Future Generations: What is our legacy?
• Doing Our Part: Being good stewards of our planet
• Energy Independence: Less energy used = independence
• Increase Efficiency and Reduce Wear and Tear: Result of
shutting things off or using them less
• Resiliency: Needing less energy = faster recovery from crisis
Washington County’s Sustainability Mission:
Meet the County’s current economic, social
and environmental needs while ensuring
future generations are able to meet theirs.
Saving Energy is Mandated
by the Board of County
Commissioners.
 Together, we have the power to save energy!
Around 10% to 15% of energy conservation potentially comes
from occupant behavior. Everyone’s efforts make a
difference.
 The County’s Sustainability Plan outlines activities for
conserving resources.
Every department also has their own sustainability plan
with specific selected actions for energy conservation.
 Energy saving efforts result in responsible use of County
funds.
We have an energy use reduction goal of 20% by 2018,
which could result in up to $400,000 cumulative savings.
