PREPARING ART FOR EXHIBITION
1. The quality of the framing for 2-D artwork must be appropriate for the Martin-Mullen
Art Gallery. This means a good quality frame that enhances the work, secure wire in the
back for hanging, quality mat (if appropriate for the piece) and a secure system for
holding the framing in place. If the work is not ready to hang, regretfully, we will not be
able to display the piece.
2. Displays such as an easel or other display mechanism for 3-D work should be included
with the work. The gallery has pedestals.
3. Each piece must have the attached identification label affixed to the back of the lower
left corner of the work. Labels are included at the end of this information sheet on
page 9. Please make as many copies as needed.

JURYING PROCESS
Work will be juried for awards prior to the opening reception. Prize winners will be announced
at the opening reception which will take place Friday, July 18 from 5-7 pm. The curator for the
show is Mr. Timothy Sheesley, Director for the Martin-Mullen Art Gallery.

All artists and their guests are invited and encouraged to attend the opening reception which
features awards, refreshments, art for sale and voting for the People’s Choice Award. All artists
receive a Voice! 12 poster and certificate of participation.
WORK FOR SALE
We encourage artists to sell their work. We have a vibrant arts community in Otsego County
and the surrounding region and many guests that attend Voice are hoping to purchase a piece.
Some artists have obtained commissions and others have arranged to sell signed prints when
the original was not for sale. If you are interested in selling exhibited work, please see Work for
Sale Procedure and Forms at the end.








New York State Thruway (I-90)
To Interstate-81 South
To Interstate-88 East
Exit 15 off of I-88
Left onto Foster/Lettis Highway. It will cross Main Street at its first major intersection,
becoming Maple Street.
At the first light on Maple Street, make a left onto Center Street. At the end of Center
Street, make a right onto West Street.
Turn right at the SUNY College at Oneonta sign onto Ravine Parkway and into the
campus.
FROM THE CAPITAL DISTRICT AND NORTH



Take the New York State Thruway (I-90) West to Exit 25A.
Take I-88 West to Exit 15. Make a right at the end of ramp onto Foster/Lettis Highway.
As the Foster/Lettis Highway crosses Main Street at its first major intersection, it
becomes Maple Street in residential Oneonta.

At the first light on Maple Street, make a left onto Center Street.
At the end of Center Street, make a right onto West Street.
Turn right at the SUNY College at Oneonta sign onto Ravine Parkway and into the
campus and look for the sign for the Admissions Office in Alumni Hall (#35 on your
campus map).

FROM THE EAST






Take Route 23 West to Oneonta.
At the first light past the Southside Mall, make a right onto Foster/Lettis Highway.
As the Foster/Lettis Highway crosses Main Street at its first major intersection, it
becomes Maple Street in residential Oneonta.
At the first light on Maple Street, make a left onto Center Street.
At the end of Center Street, make a right onto West Street.
Turn right at the SUNY College at Oneonta sign onto Ravine Parkway and into the
campus and look for the sign for the Admissions Office in Alumni Hall (#35 on your
campus map).
FROM THE SOUTH AND POINTS EAST (please note- for an easier, smoother drive with greater
restroom and cell phone access, consider taking 87 to 90 to 88W- a little longer, but a much
easier drive)

New York State Thruway - 87 (toll) or the Palisades Parkway and New York Routes 6 and
17.
 We assume you will know what routes to take to get to either of these two points.
Either route will bring you to the Harriman exit where the choice is yours:
NEW YORK STATE THRUWAY
 Continue north to the Catskill exit. Look for signs for New York Route 23 west and stay
on that until you reach Oneonta (about 90 minutes). At the first light past the Southside

ROUTE 17 TO ROSCOE...AND 50 MILES TO ONEONTA
This is a tricky route to Oneonta but probably the most popular with our returning students. Take
Route 17 West to Roscoe (Exit 94) and make a left at the end of the exit ramp....
ROSCOE TO DOWNSVILLE:
 You will be on NY Route 206 all the way but may notice signs indicating New York Route
30 and County Routes 91 (Sullivan) and 7 (Delaware). Don't be alarmed; this is O.K....

DOWNSVILLE TO WALTON:
 NY Route 206 still! Coming into Walton, turn right at the first caution light and continue
to next light. Turn left onto Rte 206 (now also NY Rte 10) and within 40 YARDS be ready
to make a quick right at the next light onto Townsend St. At this point you have left Rte
206. Continue to the end of the road and make a left on your way to Franklin....
WALTON TO FRANKLIN:
 You will be on County Route 21 (note: county signs are much smaller in size and not
easily seen.) Approximately 1 mile outside of Walton the road divides...stay right!
Entering FRANKLIN, you will make a right turn off of County 21 onto NY Rte 357 and on
into the village of Franklin....
FRANKLIN TO ONEONTA:
 357 brings you to New York Route 28. Turn left and you're almost with us. Follow Route
28 to Oneonta and follow the signs to campus.
Some Considerations



Plan on three to five hours driving time depending on point of departure: 3 hours from
Rockland County; 5 hours from Riverhead, Long Island (assuming good weather and no
traffic problems or wrong turns!)
All roads once you leave the Thruway or Route 17 are 2 lanes.
Routes from the city of Oneonta to the College at Oneonta campus are marked by
directional signs. Most out-of-town visitors arrive via I-88 or Route 23 or 28, all of which
connect to the Foster/Lettis Highway. As the Foster/Lettis Highway crosses Main Street
at its first major intersection, it becomes Maple Street in residential Oneonta. At the
first light on Maple Street, make a left onto Center Street. At the end of Center Street,
make a right onto West Street. Turn right at the SUNY College at Oneonta sign onto
Ravine Parkway and into the campus.

Campus Security
The Fine Arts Center is adjacent to a faculty/staff parking lot, on the night of the event
you are allowed to park there without a pass. For commuter lots and handicapped
accessible spots you will have to obtain a parking pass, please contact me if you need
a pass.

WORKS FOR SALE PROCEDURE AND FORMS
Each year, a number of artists choose to sell their work at Voice!

In order to designate works for sale, each artist must have a completed Works
for Sale Form (p. 8). This includes listing a specific price.

The role of The Arc Otsego will be to facilitate communication between sellers
and potential buyers. Neither The Arc Otsego nor the Martin-Mullen Gallery will
take a percentage.

Works for sale and their price will be identified in the exhibit program. Potential
buyers will be instructed to contact The Arc Otsego for more information.

At the opening reception, The Arc Otsego will have a designated volunteer to
handle inquiries about purchases. If an individual wishes to purchase an item at
the stated price, The Arc Otsego volunteer will collect the check and the buyer’s
contact information and we will forward it to the contact designated on the work
for sale form.

After opening night, potential buyers will be referred to The Arc Otsego either by
gallery staff and/or by the note in the exhibit program.

If a buyer wishes to negotiate on the price, The Arc Otsego will take the buyer’s
information and pass it along to the contact person listed on The Work For Sale
Form.

Sellers and buyers must arrange for pick up of the purchased work. The seller
should let The Arc Otsego know what the arrangements are. All purchased work
must remain in the gallery until the end of the exhibit.
