Economics of the Wine Industry

We will begin our journey in Porto, Portugal, staying 3 nights
and then continue to Lisbon for 4 nights. We also visit historic
and beautiful Coimbra, Sintra and Cascais.

Sunday we check into our hotel and have
lunch along a short orientation tour of
•
Porto
Monday we take a Walking Tour of Porto with a typical
Lunch and end the day with a winery visit. Porto is one of
Europe’s oldest city and a UNESCO World Heritage Site
•
Tuesday, we visit two businesses in Douro River Valley
The Douro river travels through steep valleys creating a
wine-growing region that is now a UNESCO World Heritage
Site because of it dramatic natural beauty.
On Wednesday we transfer to Lisbon visiting historic
Coimbra. First settled by the Romans in the 6th century,
Coimbra is known as the medieval capital of Portugal.
On Thursday we have a full day walking tour of Lisbon Sites include
the UNESCO World Heritage Site Jeronimos Monastery, built in the
1500’s and considered one of the most beautiful; Belem Tower also a
UNESCO Site; Berardo and Calouste Gulbenkian Museums.
On Friday we visit the Azeitão region in the heart of the Peninsula de
Setúbala. This area is a large producer of olive, cork, red wine and a
creamy cheese made of raw sheep’s milk.

• Students can use the course’s 3 credits as an Economics ,
International Business or General Elective. It also satisfies a
cultural diversity requirement.
• Prerequisite: Principles of Micro or Macro or Contemporary
Economic Issues
• The cost $3100 and includes everything except dinners
(which are free time). There is the possibility of a $1500
Sails scholarship which is given to 50% or more of
applicants.
