Furness JCR Minutes

1. Welcome and Apologies
Apologies from Michael Gill – going to be late
2. Minutes of last meeting - approved
3. Matters arising from the minutes
Will – had a meting with Lou Davies, will put a request into facilities to get more
plugs in Trevs. Asked about pool cue stand – we have to buy a stand, she will put
a request and someone will drill a hole for us
4. Announcements
Will – Big up to Megan and all those who helped with fresher’s reps interviews –
long process but it will be worth it. We will have the best fresher’s reps this year!
5. Fresher’s Week
Megan – heard on the grapevine that other colleges have started talking about
fresher’s week – think of ideas over Easter. Potential reps want more focus on
daytime events & none drinking events. Bev has mentioned chocolate fountain &
BBQ, people can come and go as they please.
Reni – keeping the thing from last year, the hangover thing?
Megan- yes, any new ideas?
Ryan – make a Google document and people can put ideas on that
Will – Fresher’s week will be the focus of what I do over Easter
6. Furness Onesies
Will – Meeting with Lou Davies, Bev & I – get them with hoodies & sell them. Bev
has gone to one company, will be £21 for purple onesie with a white logo. Or
cheaper with grey onesie and purple logo. Thoughts?
Lauren – I vote for purple rather than grey
Ollie – Bowland have them, no-one bought them
Will- Cartmel had them as well but no one bought them – they were £30
Grace – if we don’t sell them then we will just have excess stock that is just
money tied up. Last JCR have loads of hoodies that we still haven’t sold.
Will – people may already have them – missed the Onesie train. Look into it
depending on price.
Reni – What happened with Hoodies? We already have hoodies? Sell both?
Will – problem with last JCR, Henry and Piotr had a cool design but didn’t fit with
‘Furness style’ Need to advertise the hoodies again.
Ollie – make a promotional video to sell them? 80s TV ad style?
7. Fish and Chip canal cruise
Will – want more peoples opinions, go ahead with it, 17th June, unsure if JCR have
to go. Good social that’s not based on getting drunk, ideally get internationals
involved
8. World Cup event
Reni – international societies play different sports & win a cup. It is next week in
Fylde. Only advertising is a FB page.
Will – as no-one has mentioned a poster, possible Fylde have done it and not told
people?
Reni – Supposed to be a cross campus event- put posters in bars ect. Not heard
anything about it apart from FB.
Will – worth messaging person in charge?
Reni – supposed to have a meeting but it was cancelled.
Will – suggest contacting Fylde JCR, asking them if they know more than we do
because we want to help? Can we share the FB page? Put it in Bevs Hills.
9. Green Screen
Adam- Ollie & I want to make Bevs Hills uniform. Requires a green screen. Atm,
using blue towels – not good. Want to buy a proper green screen – useless if you
don’t have a decent lit room. Can get kits: green screen, stand & 2 sets of lights
from £70-90. Would come out of Media & Comms budget. Can be used by
successive JCRs as well.
Mossy – talk to SCR for money/subsidisation?
Will – might as well ask. Unsure if we get more money now and less money
during freshers week?
Ryan – expensive for just green screen? Are lights important? Yes
Ollie – needs to be uniform lighting
Will – Grace and I will look into budget & get back to you
10. JCR development surgery
Ryan – It’s a drop in session
Will – He came into pre-com & asked about WOT week and what more can be
done.
Ryan – used to have WOT day refresher in Easter – this is instead
Will – would be good if we had questions about extrav – questions about booking
stuff ect.
11. A.O.B.

Reni – event happening week 23 – Friday 9th April. Cartmel, Lonsdale,
Bowland, County involved – every bar will be a different country. For
good turn out we need to publicise it when we are back from Easter. Ask
media & comms people to come up with a poster please. We are England.
Idea is that we are going to make a map of campus advertising each
country/bar. Not a bar crawl. Different activities in every place –
corresponds to the country. We might do a tea party.
Are we expected to provide food?
Reni - £300 budget per college
Ollie – dislike the focus of international events being fixated on countries
Will – student engagement of international events is not good.
Reni – for marketing, cross campus event - Everyone does a poster, we
pick the best.
Adam – every college comes up with a poster & it might not get used.
Need 1 poster.
Frankie – surely CCO of media and comms makes that poster for cross
campus events?
Reni – hoping for something like programmes for Patriots.
Lauren – waste of time for all the officers if only 1 gets picked. Have you
spoken to Media & Comms CCO?
Reni – Cartmel have spoken to them
Tom – you need to get involved if people aren’t doing things properly
Lauren – Can we not talk to Pollit? Yes
Will – Need to get onto CCOs, it’s their job
Adam – don’t mind publicising & contacting people to ask why it is our
responsibility
Reni – don’t want to cause conflict
Will – I will message Pollit and have a meeting with her, she is our FTO. I
will let you all know.
Lauren – why would we start at 6 and others start at 6:30?
Reni – so that you don’t miss out & can go to all.
Tom – we have £300, what’s that for
Reni - £250 for food & £50 for decorations. Fish Chips for £5 for 50 people



Megan – People owe me £4 for people presents – please pay me

Will – spoke about cutlery – people keep stealing it so they won’t rebuy it.

Will – JCR review, we need to promote it. Cartmel person is going to it.
Jaz – carter shield, only 3 people turned up – cartmel sport secs didn’t
turn up

Will – review will be on Monday throughout the day
Reni – What day? I have brain farts.
Will – I will do a doodle

Lauren – asked about SCR lunch? Thursday decided

Tom – Do a pre roses social? Is first weekend back – can’t

Ollie – Need to make an app that says ‘don’t minute that’

Megan – video next Sunday – got to 35% with FTO turn out so want to do
a video thank you

Will – get some poster for JCR review

Lauren – we said we’d come back from Easter early? Yes
It’s my bday next Tuesday I want to see you all there!

Mike – green week is happening now – stuff is going on but it’s not
advertised -Friday will be the bag competition

Adam – mentioned it before, want to do another Why Choose Furness
Video – will do it next term.

