South Effingham Middle School Lady Mustang Volleyball 2009 Team Covenant “Your Attitude will determine your Altitude” Lady Mustang Team Covenant What is a covenant? A covenant, defined by Webster’s dictionary, is a solemn and binding agreement. A written agreement or promise under seal between two or more parties; particularly under the performance of some action. I. Qualifications A. B. C. D. Players must meet academic regulations set by the State of Georgia. Players must have a current medical physical on file with the school. Players must have a parent consent and waiver form on file with the school. Players must meet age requirements. 1. If in 6th grade, cannot be 14 years of age before May 1, 2009 2. If in 7th grade, cannot be 15 years of age before May 1, 2009 3. If in 8th grade, cannot be 16 years of age before May 1, 2009 II. Player Rules and Regulations A. Attendance 1. Players must attend all games and practices, if unable to attend please give Coach Duke and Coach Faith written excuse in advance. Missed practices and/or games may result in being benched for the next game. If a player misses three practices/games without being excused she will be dismissed from the team. 2. Athletes must be in attendance the full school day on the day of a sporting event in order to participate. Athletes are expected to be in class at the regular time on the day following a sporting event. 3. If a player becomes ill and must leave school, she is to notify Coach Faith BEFORE going home. Timeliness 1. If a player is late to a practice, game, or bus leaving for a game or practice she will have consequences. The consequences may be additional conditioning or missed playing time. Behavior 1. Players must behave in an excellent manner at all times. This includes at practice, games, school, and in route to and from games and practices. 2. Behavior that is unacceptable includes but is not limited to: i. profanity ii. pouting iii. rudeness iv. criticism v. cheating vi. smoking, drinking alcohol, drug use vii. lying 3. If a player engages in unacceptable behavior, consequences will be given. Consequences may include extra conditioning, missed playing time, or being dismissed from the team. 4. If a teacher or any school personnel informs the coach of a behavior problem with a player that player will miss playing time. 5. If a player receives school detention, ISS or OSS she will not be allowed to play in the next scheduled game. Depending on the infraction, the player may also be dismissed from the team. 6. Lady Mustang Athletes are to be the Best Students that they can possibly be. Lady Mustang athletes are leaders in our school. Leaders lead by example. 7. Players are to accept constructive criticism from their coaches. B. Expectations: 1. Players are to inform Coaches of any injury or illness immediately. 2. Players are to give 100% in all practices and games. 3. Players are expected to listen to their Coaches at all times. 4. If a player has a dispute with the coach or another player, she is to talk to the Coach immediately. 5. Players are to keep all grades above 70% at all times, Coaches will perform random grade checks. If any academic grade is below 70%, that player will be on probation until the grade is above a 70%. 6. Players are expected to have proper attire for games and practices. Please remember to wear uniforms in the manner they were designed. If not properly attired, you will not be allowed to practice and it will be unexcused. If it is a game and you do not have proper attire, you will not play. Proper attire includes: tennis shoes, uniforms, kneepads, etc. and clothes that properly cover your body. 7. Players are expected to maintain a clean gym and locker room at all games and practices. 8. Players are to treat all faculty and staff members, coaches, managers, officials and teammates with respect. III. Parent Behavior and Expectations A. Parents are to display appropriate behavior at all times. Parents are not to criticize any player. B. Parents are NOT to coach players during a game or practice. If a parent attempts to "coach" during games or practices I will ask you to be quiet. If the problem persists I will ask you to leave the area. Your repeated attempts to coach may hurt your daughter's playing time. C. Parents are to help (not do) their daughter with the fundraisers. D. Parents are not to undermine the coaches. E. Parents are to provide transportation at the appropriate times from practices and games. F. If a parent has a question, comment or complaint you are to address it to Coaches after practice or game. G. Parents are expected to attend parent meetings. H. Parents are expected to provide their daughter with any necessary equipment. IV. Uniforms and Equipment A. B. C. D. The uniform is to be worn only on game days. Players are responsible for the care and condition of the uniforms. NO jewelry is to be worn during practices or games. All players are responsible for team equipment at the beginning and end of each practice or game. E. Your gym bag should contain: 1. a jacket 2. extra socks 3. feminine needs 4. deodorant, toiletries, etc. 5. hair holder with no metal or plastic F. Hair must be secured with a schrunchie or rubber band, no metal or plastic. V. Transportation A. All players will be transported by bus to away games. B. Players are required to ride the bus back to the school after away games. (Exceptions may be made with prior approval) VI. Communication A. All excuses, requests or permission slips to the coach should be written. B. Try to keep all verbal communication positive. VII. Schedules A. Game schedule is included in this package. Please refer to this schedule when making appointments and providing transportation. Playing volleyball is a privilege and at any time we understand that the coach has the right to revoke that privilege.
