The Skill Section The aim of the Skill section is “to encourage the discovery and development of practical social skills and personal interests”. Of the Skill and Physical Recreation sections, one must be followed for 6 months and the other for 12. If you are a direct Gold entrant, you must do an extra 6 months of either Service, or the longer of the Skill or Physical section. As you are taking part in the Award while at Uni, we would like you to encourage to make the most of the wide range of clubs and societies affiliated to the Union, many of which can be used to complete your Skill section. Some Ideas… ArtOfficial - If you’re feeling creative, these guys can provide you with the materials and studio space you need, as well as the chance to exhibit your work. bristolartofficial@hotmail.com Bristol Debating – Organise weekly debates on a range of issues, as well as visiting speakers. ua2512@bristol.ac.uk Massage- Offer the opportunity to learn Therapeutic massage. They aim to teach the basic skills involved in relaxing the various muscles of the body. (And you get to go to Uni Balls for free!) et0253@bris.ac.uk Photosoc- If you fancy yourself as a bit of a photographer, get free use of their fully equipped darkrooms. They also run workshops on developing and printing your own films. js2632@bris.ac.uk Pottery- The society have their own pottery wheels and kiln at the Union. (A good excuse to get messy) kt2833@bris.ac.uk Signsoc- For both deaf and hearing students, this society offer you the chance to learn sign language, which could be a very useful skill. owner-signsoc-members@bris.ac.uk Dramsoc- For the thespians out there, they give you the chance to act in, direct, write and produce the 6 plays they put on each year. fb2473@bris.ac.uk UBFS (Film-making)- Become involved in making short films, whether it’s acting or directing. ubfs-president@bits.bris.ac.uk Music Theatre Bristol- If musicals are more your thing, get involved in singing, acting, dancing… lc2248@bris.ac.uk Stage Technicians’ Association- These guys run the technical side of all the productions put on by the Uni, and offer a great chance to get involved behind the scenes. sta-committee@sta.bristol.ac.uk Bristol University Music Society- Run the Chamber Orchestra, Chamber Choir, Big Band, Wind Orchestra and String Orchestra, so if you play an instrument there’s bound to be something for you. cl1691@bristol.ac.uk Symphonia- An orchestra which offer the chance to play fun and exciting music in an informal atmosphere. cp1571@bris.ac.uk Change-Ringers- Try something different!
