MSN courses are intended to be taken in sequence. Students requesting to take an MSN course out-ofsequence (i.e. taking only one course in a term) for any reason (i.e. personal, professional, unable to
secure a preceptor, etc.) will need to fill out the Out-of-Sequence Form and submit to the MSN
Associate Director of the OU School of Nursing. Filling out this form does not automatically give you
permission to take courses out of sequence. Each student’s program of study will be reviewed and
approved or denied on a case-by-case basis. Providing detailed information to us about your request
and reason is very helpful in the approval process.
This form must be submitted to the MSN Associate Director via MSN@ohio.edu at least 30 days prior to
the first day of the term in which the course sequence change would occur.

1) Since the curriculum realignment in Fall 2015 went into effect, All MSN core courses must be
completed before a student may take any clinical course.
2) FNP clinical courses must be taken in the following sequence:
NRSE 6920 Care of Women (3 ch)
New curriculum sequence
NRSE 6921 Care of Adults (3 ch)
a) NRSE 6820 Advanced Maternal & Child Care (6 ch)
NRSE 6922 Care of Children (3 ch)
b) NRSE 6821 Primary Care of Adults & Older Adults (8 ch)
NRSE 6923 FNP in Practice (4 ch)
c) NRSE 6822 FNP in Practice (7 ch)
3) For the NE Track, NRSE 6610 Curriculum Development must be taken before NRSE 6620
Teaching Strategies and NRSE 6630 Academic Role.
4) All classes must be completed or completed concurrently with the capstone course.
