OP-FTIR: Product Description and Specifications

OP-FTIR: Open Path Spectrometer for Air Quality Monitoring
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The OP-FTIR is a low-cost, compact,
ruggedized, Open-Path Fourier Transform
Infrared (OP-FTIR) spectrometer system. The
system is designed to work in the informationrich 7 to 14 micron region with 8 cm-1 spectral
resolution. This resolution is specifically
tailored for identifying and quantifying heavy
industrial solvent molecules with comparable
selectivity and better sensitivity than a highresolution (Δσ<1 cm-1) spectrophotometer.
The new OP-FTIR system combines low
manufacturing cost with high sensitivity in a
rugged, fieldable instrument. The sensitivity
increase offered by our low spectral resolution
design permits the use of an uncooled
pyroelectric detector in place of the more
traditional cryogenically-cooled mercury
cadmium telluride detector.
Algorithms
tailored for use with low resolution spectra
maintain system specificity without sacrificing
overall sensitivity.
System bulk and
complexity are further reduced through the
use of a novel encoder-based metrology
system that replaces the Helium-Neon laser
interferometer used in most FTIR systems
The
system includes
algorithms
to
automatically compute concentration x path
length products for multiple molecular species
from the measured spectra, allowing for
autonomous, stand-alone operation. A low
cost plastic press-molded retroreflector array
for use in place of the typical hollow glass
corner cube retroreflector array is available as
an option.
OPTRA is a large scale provider of chemical
agent detection sensors for the military
marketplace and a small scale provider of
innovative environmental solutions.
