PRINCIPAL LEADERSHIP: The 7 Standards School Leadership § Builds High Performing Teams § Coordinates the Work of Others § Implements the Vision UPDATES: Continuous Improvement • Advisory Planning Team built a draft curriculum for SY2015-­‐2016. • English Department building a Reading Language Arts and College Prep Reading and Writing Curriculum for SY2015-­‐2016. • Freshmen Grade Level team creating and planning incentives aligned to student data at LVHS. Instructional Leadership • Faculty surveyed to assess “REACH Component” area of growth. • Instructional Leadership Team (ILT) conducted a “Learning Walk” with Network 2 to learn more about the teacher-­‐selected area of growth, “Questioning & Discussion Strategies”. • Staff attended Professional Development aligned to project-­‐based assessments that are authentically aligned to standards. • Whole staff Professional Development aligned to the creation of objective-­‐aligned rubric and evaluating them quality. nd

Learning Climate • Staff attended Professional Development “Session III” aligned to “restorative conversations” in the § High Academic Expectations § Personalism and Caring learning environment. § Discipline and Order • Staff coaching for teachers aligned to teacher areas of growth identified in areas of classroom management. Management § Assessment § Curriculum § Instruction § Professional Development § Recruitment and Hiring § Staff Observation/Evaluation and Instructional Supervision Parent Involvement and Community Partnership § Parent Involvement § Community Partnerships School Management & Daily Operations § Daily Operations § Fiscal Management Interpersonal • My Voice My School Survey Update: Organized a raffle that all parents who complete the MVMS survey would be automatically entered (Drawing will be held May 8th) Facilitated a bulk mail of surveys to each family w/ a self-­‐addressed stamped envelop to return surveys paid for by the Parent Advisory Council PAC Members volunteered on Report Card Pick Day to assist parents with completing the survey Robo-­‐calls before and after report card pick up reminding parents about the deadline for the survey, as well as the opportunity to win an iPad Called individual students down to the office whose letters came back return-­‐to-­‐sender and put copies of the survey in their hands to take home. • Results (with one day to go): We are currently at 28% (367 out of 1297) This does not account for families with more than one student which would likely bump our percentage up. No mail arrived yesterday and there has been a steady stream up to that point, I am confident that we will meet our goal of 30% • Comcast Cares event painted hallways 2, 3, and portions of 1 as well as cleaning school-­‐wide. • Northwester Brain Fair attended by 800 families last week. • Awaiting budget for SY2015-­‐2016. • Planning to engage LSC in a review of Continuous Improvement Work Plan and Budget (if available) at May LSC Meeting (Similar to last year’s “Group Review” Activity). • Collaborating with #GrowCommunity (Local Aldermen) regarding opportunities for increased financial / capital support of LVHS as well as the planning of capital improvement projects identified at LVHS. • Newsletter shared • MEMO to Senior Parents in progress regarding steps taken and expectations. CCSS Literacy: The English, Social Studies, and Focus Departments will work collaboratively to unpack Common Core State Standards and develop a scope & sequence for the departments, as well as common assessments & unit plans for the grade-­‐level teams. Lake View High School will work with the University of Chicago’s Network for College Success to develop the capacity of our Instructional leadership Team with the goal of the ILT leading staff through a series of professional development opportunities centered around one common targeted instructional area (TIA). The ILT will progress monitor the TIA to ensure that effective teaching and learning strategies are shared, supported, and rooted in action research to increase student achievement. CCSS Math: The Math Department will work collaboratively to unpack Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for math and the 8 Mathematical Practice Standards and develop a scope & sequence for the department, as well as common assessments & unit plans for the grade-­‐level teams. The department and course teams will meet every other week to perform and progress monitor this work so that effective DDI can be utilized to continuously improve math instruction that is aligned to CCSS. Science: The Science Department will work collaboratively to unpack the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and develop a scope & sequence for the department, as well as common assessments & unit plans for the grade-­‐level teams. The department and course teams will meet every other week to perform and progress monitor this work so that effective DDI can be utilized to continuously improve science instruction that is aligned to NGSS, CCSS, and CRS. Attendance: Build school-­‐wide attendance policies and plan for parent/guardian engagement. Strengthen incentive program, regular communication to parents/guardians regarding student attendance, and a school-­‐wide teacher-­‐driven focus on attendance monitoring and support. College Access & Persistence: Strengthen curriculum, instructional practice, and professional development, particularly in Math and English to qualify students for college-­‐level coursework. At the same time, develop an Early College culture and structures for ensuring students are prepared for and supported in their Early College coursework. Climate, Culture, and Social Emotional Learning: LVHS has a school-­‐wide guideline that Lake View is HOME, which focuses students on the importance of Honor, Ownership, Mastery and Education and what each one entails; explicit social-­‐emotional learning on needs as identified in various data; incentives to motivate students in growth areas as seen in data; restorative justice that prioritizes learning rather than punishment; a focus on collaboration and continuous learning for staff as well as students common planning time that is prioritized, structured, and planned in advance to maximize planning around both academic and social-­‐emotional supports.
