Composition 1 Portfolio Presentation By Meg Glawe December 2000 Introduction In Composition I I have expanded what I had learned in high school. I have learned how to organize my thoughts and explain them in my writing better. In this presentation I will give examples on how Composition I went for me and things I have learned from it. Changes/Skills Demonstrated 6 specific changes in my writing. I am writing better introductions. Changes in my Writing this Semester I have learned to write an effective summary. I know in how to cite sources correctly my writing. I have learned four ways to organize essays. I know the essential features of a good thesis statement. I have learned more about interpreting poetry through reading poems by Gary Gildner. I have increased my skills in working with power point since my first power point. Conclusion I have learned to write an effective summary. I have learned to summarize and pick out the main points in the story so it is easily understood and the main points are brought across. I have learned that there is a variety of different ways to cite sources for all the different kinds of sources that are out there. I have improved my level 2 writing abilities by writing clearer and more accurate summaries. Also writing more focused essays. I think all that I have learned in this class will help me excel more in Composition 2. Writing Skill / Levels 1 & 2 Level One: – Expresses clearly thoughts and ideas in informal writing contexts. – Composes structurally correct sentences in Standard American English. – Generates well-developed, coherent paragraphs. Level Two: – Processes information to produce writing that clearly and accurately summarizes and/or reports. – Writes, well-developed, focused essays. – Searches for information and inserts research appropriately.
