AIP Conf erence Pr oceedings 675 Important Information and Set-Up Instructions Operating System Display Settings So that the settings to the Adobe Acrobat Reader® program, outlined below under FILE MANAGEMENT and SETTING UP SEARCH FIELDS, can be made successfully, your computer's display settings should be set to 800x600 pixels or higher. The Adobe Acrobat Reader® program cannot be modified if your display settings are lower than 800x600 pixels. For example, a 640x400 pixels setting causes the Adobe Acrobat Reader® program's settings window to appear so large that it is not possible to click on the OK button to confirm the change made to the settings. Note to Users: Due to certain problems that are inherent with Adobe Acrobat 6.0, we have chosen to continue using Acrobat 5.0 for our CD-ROM development. This CD-ROM was designed for use with Adobe Acrobat 5.0. Cross document linking within a single window and exiting the viewer program will not work with Acrobat 6.0. If you are currently using Acrobat 6.0 please go to page five of this file to view instructions. Loading Adobe Acrobat® This CD-ROM is viewed using the free Adobe Acrobat Reader® program. The Adobe Acrobat Reader® program can be installed from this CD-ROM. It can also be downloaded from "www.adobe.com". To search this CD-ROM, the Adobe Acrobat Reader® program must also contain the Search Plugin. While the Adobe Acrobat Reader® program is available for WINDOWS, MAC, and UNIX operating systems, the Search Plugin is not available for some versions of UNIX and is only available for the MACINTOSH through an online Web-based installation. This CD-ROM is set up for Adobe Acrobat Reader® version 5.0.5 or later. If you must use an earlier version (e.g. because Adobe does not have a 5.0.5 or later version available for your operating system) then all of the CD-ROM's features may not be active. For WINDOWS 95 users, Acrobat Reader® Version 5.0.5 (with the Search Plugin) can be installed from this CD-ROM. For WINDOWS 98, ME, NT, 2000, and XP users, Acrobat Reader® Version 5.1 (with the Search Plugin) can be installed from this CD-ROM. For MACINTOSH users, Acrobat Reader® Version 5.0 (WITHOUT the Search Plugin) can be installed from this CD-ROM. To install Acrobat Reader® Version 5.1 (with the Search Plugin), you must go to www.adobe.com and perform an online Web-based installation. For UNIX users Adobe Acrobat Reader® version 4.0 may be the latest version available and depending on your version of UNIX, the Search Plugin may not be available. This CD-ROM contains Adobe Acrobat Reader® installation programs for the following versions of UNIX: Digital, HP, IBM_AIX, Linux, SGI_INIX, SUNSOLARIS_X86, and SUNSOLARISSPARC. How to Navigate this CD-ROM Bookmarks appear to the left of pages throughout your CD-ROM. These are designed to help get you to and from all the information presented on this CD-ROM. Below is an explanation on how each bookmark works. The Main Menu bookmark will always get you back to the main menu page of the CD-ROM, where all sections of the CDROM are identified. The Table of Contents bookmark will always get you back to the table of contents from any page in the body of the CD-ROM. The Search bookmark will bring you to the Search screen, this bookmark only appears on selected screens. To determine if the Acrobat Search Plugin is present, open the Adobe Acrobat Reader® program. Look in the tool bar located at the top of the screen for binocular icons. If there are two such icons, the Acrobat Search Plugin is installed. If there is only one binocular icon then you will not be able to search this CD-ROM until a version of the Adobe Acrobat Reader® program that contains the Search Plugin is installed. See the information at the beginning of this document for additional information on the Search Plugin. Setting Up Search Fields The Search bookmark shown on the left of each paper will bring you to the search screen. Before initiating your search you must set Acrobat Reader® to include the Document Information Field search capability on your search screen. Tips for Searching this CD-ROM If your version of the Adobe Acrobat Reader® program has the Search Plugin, the articles on this CD-ROM are both text searchable and Document Information field searchable. The Document Information fields can be found just below the text search field in the search screen (see below for search screen layout). These fields consist of four categories: Title, Subject, Author, and Keywords. As you navigate from document to document you may notice your computer slowing down. To fix this problem you can manually close windows still open from previously viewed documents. Searching this CD-ROM To search this CD-ROM click on the binoculars button. This will open the Search PDF window to the right side of the screen. In this window, select “Use Advanced Search Option” located at the lower right. Once “Use Advanced Search Option” has been selected, a different menu page will open that will allow you to search by different criteria, including Title, Subject, Author, and Keywords.
