Terrecotte S. Rocco USA
terracotta for the centuries
Terrecotte San Rocco is the leading artisanal manufacturer of
terracotta garden pottery and products in Italy today, utilizing
exclusively Galestro clay from Colorobbia™ (www.colorobbiaspa.com).
Galestro clay is simply the highest quality clay available in Italy and
produces a superior product that is both frost and heat resistant.
(Scientific testing was performed on a piece of our Galestro clay; the test
results are shown in the chart below.) Impruneta, the famed village near
Florence, has long been known for its terracotta products. The Galestro
clay body, along with the reputation of the town’s artisans has made
Impruneta a recognized name, however, the use of the word “Impruneta”
does not necessarily guarantee that Galestro clay has been used or the
quality is inherent.
Galestro is sandy, grey clay unique to the Tuscan countryside. The
particular structure of the soil also characterizes Tuscany as one of the
best wine zones and it was by no mere chance that the Tuscan region
became better known during the 1970s because it was tied to wine
production. The history of the clay deposits is well documented by the
description on the walls of Roselle, an Etruscan-Roman city in the area of
what is now Grosseto. Galestro is mentioned as one of the materials used
for the construction of the walls. The ground is poor in appearance;
loose on the surface, but rich in its subsoil. This enables Galestro to give personality
not only to vines spreading their roots into the soft subsoil, but also to objects
produced with the clays that have originated from the same ecosystem. The final
products of Galestro clay exemplify the characteristics of the raw material, the
application of constant and continuous controls in the
working process, and master skill in molding and firing.
Galestro derives its finished characteristic "terracotta" color
from efflorescent natural salts. Colorobbia™ also produces
other colors that are obtained by the
utilization of oxides. These oxides do not
alter the frost resistant characteristics of
the products. To meet market trends, we are
able to supply a color range that includes
green, Sienese red, blue as well as the
Etruscan color which is similar to the typical
Etruscan vase.
The trademark has been registered to better
protect our customers’ interests and
guarantees that the clay utilized comes
exclusively from the deposits which have been
mined by us, and processed with methods
which guarantee the physical-chemical
characteristics and granulometric
constancy. All of this makes a material which
is a product of high quality and great
versatility.
Terrecotte San Rocco and Colorobbia™, the
world’s largest ceramics products
manufacturer, have joined to produce Italy’s
finest terracotta. In addition, Terrecotte San
Rocco has one of the largest selections of
classic and contemporary designs available.
Don’t be fooled by other products professing
to be frost resistant, ask to see the proof!
