SIP AND SAVOUR 2016
Why Sarah Robbins is dedicated to give back to BC Women’s Newborn ICU
The inception of Sip and Savour arose from Numpfer founder Sarah Robbin’s desire to give back to
the BC Women’s Newborn ICU. Sarah’s own baby daughter, Charlotte, spent her first three days of
life here – the longest three days of Sarah’s life.
After 18 hours of labour, rife with painful complications, Sarah’s baby was born in BC Women’s
Hospital. When the baby was finally delivered via emergency C-section, Sarah and her husband
finally got to meet and hold their baby girl for the first time. In the first moments of holding her and
trying to memorize her beautiful little face Sarah noticed that little Charlotte’s lips were going blue.
Confused, she said faintly “her lips are going blue” it seemed the doctors stopped everything and
whisked the baby away to assess and fix the problem. It was a very scary time for the new parents
who were so tired, full of questions and worry for their little baby girl. The doctors took Charlotte to
the BC Women’s Newborn ICU nursery so that she could be monitored and treated 24/7 under the
watchful eye of the incredible nurses and doctors. For three excruciating days, Charlotte was in the
NICU, treated for jaundice and a variety of other things to make sure she was strong enough and
healthy enough to go home.
“It only took 3 days for everything to go from horribly wrong to
incredibly strong. It if wasn’t for the medical staff and all the intricate
equipment, who knows what could have happened. Those three days
have given us a lifetime with Charlotte, who is a healthy and vibrant
three-year-old today!”
Sarah Robbins, founder of Numpfer™
Deeply grateful for the care she received at BC Women’s, Sarah is dedicated to pay forward her
gratitude by throwing the fabulous annual “Sip and Savour” event that gives back to the BC
Women’s Newborn ICU. “Last year was a huge success! We look forward to our second annual Sip
and Savour on October 3rd, 2016 at the Pipe Shop in North Vancouver. We hope to see you there!”
ABOUT NUMPFER
Sarah’s experience at BC Women’s Newborn ICU led to another gift. Sarah observed that the design
of the absorbent washcloths the nurses used as bibs could be improved to enhance babies’ comfort.
“The market did not supply bibs that provided full coverage, resulting in a very wet outfit. Once home
I couldn’t find the functional, absorbent, soft yet stylish bib I was searching for – and so I created
multi use super soft bibs to enhance the babies comfort - and Numpfer™ was born.” At this year’s
Sip and Savour events, Numpfer is committed to raising unrestricted dollars for the BC Women’s
Newborn ICU, to purchase an incubator valued at $80.000.
