Health & Wellness
What is Health?
The common concept of health held by our society is that health is the absence of disease.
Although the absence of disease is one aspect of the definition of health, there is a much
more comprehensive and holistic way of looking at health.
There are many dimensions of health to consider; physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, social, intellectual, financial, relationships and occupational. This is by no means an exhaustive
list of the dimensions of health, but it is a starting point in the aspects to consider when you
ponder the question, what is health?
Considering the many dimensions of health, having balance throughout these
dimensions would be the ultimate goal in leading a healthy life. A continuous
exploration into these areas and remaining open to the idea of change and willing to take
small steps toward balance is vital.
This begins with self-awareness and is followed by resilience. There are countless tools for
raising ones awareness and building resilience. Mindfulness, meditation, good nutrition,
physical activity, and various spiritual practices are a few examples.
It is never a bad idea to seek support if you feel that you are not living with optimum health.
Working with a health coach or attending any of the wellness classes offered is a great starting point.
Remember life is a treasure hunt and you are the prize.

Sailing the Body-Ship
A poem by Willie Lee Johnson
(part one)
The body is a ship
While your mind is the captain
Sailing on a very mysterious trip
And your consciousness is just –a-traveling along
A-hoys mates
Let hoist the sails of fate
And allow the breezes of opportunity
Betake us to unknown Bounty
Lads and ladies, Raise anchor
And unfetter your crafts of release from its past
rancor.
For we leave this place.
Why
Because, for the richness of adventure
We have a taste.
Who among you are with me my friends?
As I the body-ship
Crests the waves of earthy storm
While I’m hanging on to my choice of action,
With tooth and/or knife till the aftermath of sun
lit morn.
Together we will form a convoy of free-willed
vessels,
In search of self
Motivated and fueled by an unbridled passion,
Of an unattained desire.
Please don’t be misled
For I make no promises of success,
Because as you will find
It is all too easy to fail, the tests of our time
For many have fallen victim, of a derelict mind.
