MEDIA ADVICE: 18 January 2016 SANTOS TOUR DOWN UNDER RETURNS TO THE BAY CELEBRATE WITH GLENELG’S RETURN OF THE TOUR STREET PARTY! RETURN OF THE TOUR. STREET PARTY 5PM-LATE WEDNESDAY 20 JANUARY JETTY ROAD & MOSELEY SQUARE, GLENELG: FREE, ALL WELCOME! City of Holdfast Bay Mayor Mr Stephen Patterson says Holdfast Bay is busy gearing up for the Santos Tour Down Under’s return to Glenelg this Thursday 21 January. The 139km Thomas Foods Stage 3 Race from Glenelg to Campbelltown will kick off from Colley Terrace at 11am on Thursday morning, with festivities starting from 9.30am, but Holdfast Bay is rolling out the welcome mat the night before with a massive street party… “It was fabulous to have the Santos Tour Down Under return to Glenelg last year, and we were all thrilled to hear that the Thomas Foods Stage 3 would start from Glenelg this year,” he said. “Our traders and local businesses are rolling out the welcome mat, the community has been flat out creating quirky, bike-themed artworks with the aim of winning the Santos Best Dressed Town competition, and we’re warming up to the race the night before with a fantastic street party! Mayor Patterson said this year’s Return of the Tour Street Party – 5pm-late Wednesday 20 January, Jetty Rd, Glenelg – would feature live music with Dirty Harry, Dino Jag, the Rhythm Cats Mason Lloyde, SA Samba and Joe Man Murphy; roving entertainment with Bamboozled (a performance troupe on largescale bikes) plus snake charmers, fortune tellers, unicycle cops and magicians; sizzling-hot street food and cool drinks with eight pop-up bars, plus bike-themed entertainment and a fashion parade. “The Vintage Bay Tram Catwalk, which was enormously popular last year, will return with an upbeat fashion parade featuring fresh summer Jetty Road fashion, and as well as roving artists and pop-up food vendors and bars, we have some great bike-themed entertainment. If you bring your own bike, you can test your skills on a temporary foreshore pump track and help us make music and lights with our bikepowered fun machine. Plus there’s Jetty Road’s huge range of cafes, bars and restaurants and shops are open for late night shopping and sidewalk sales.” Mayor Patterson says last year’s Santos Tour Down Under delivered an economic benefit of $47.9 million to the state, so its return to Glenelg is good news for Holdfast Bay’s traders and tourism operators. “The Tour attracts an enormous amount of media attention and will bring huge crowds to Glenelg, and of course we are excited by the longer-term benefits that come from the international media exposure.” …/2 More information Media enquiries: please contact Trisha Helbers on 8229 9874, 0400 143 912 or thelbers@holdfast.sa.gov.au. 2.
