Cameron Diaz at Cannes Film Festival, 1994
I have long admired this photo of Cameron Diaz. I first saw it in a magazine and ripped it
out to keep. The color and composition peaked my interest. I am easily fascinated by pictures
from the past, especially when the subject of the photo is still relevant or relatable to me today.
Since this photo is from the past, but still not too long ago and relatable to today, it intrigued me
a lot. In my paper I explored the appropriation of clothing trends. This outfit worn by Cameron
Diaz in 1994 is lifted from the punk era in the 1970’s. Today in 2017, slip dresses and Doc
Martens are still popular. These trends can be found in any fast fashion store today. I explored
typical 1990’s trends and their manifestation in today’s fashion industry. This photo is extremely
relevant due to its connection to today. Cannes Film Festival and the fashion and celebrity
culture that exists within that sector of fame continues to grow as time goes on. I enjoyed writing
this paper and gaining knowledge on somethings that I knew a lot about and some that I knew
very little.
