OshairaR@kallman.com HELPFUL TRAVEL INFORMATION ENTRY / EXIT REQUIREMENTS FOR U.S. CITIZENS U.S. citizens entering Chile must have a passport in good condition, valid for the period of your stay. U.S. citizens traveling to Chile for recreation, tourism, business, or academic conferences do not need to obtain a visa prior to their arrival in Chile if traveling with a tourist passport. All official and diplomatic passport holders are required to obtain a visa prior to travel regardless of the purpose of their visit. For those traveling with a tourist passport, a Tourist Card or printed receipt will be issued to each visitor at immigration for a stay of up to 90 days. An extension of stay for another 90 days is possible upon payment of a USD 100 extension fee at the Chilean Immigration Office located at San Antonio 580, Santiago; telephone (56) 2 2550-2469. For more info please visit: www.travel.state.gov (Select Entry, Exit & Visa Requirements) SMART TRAVELER ENROLLMENT PROGRAM (STEP) The Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) is a free service to allow U.S. citizens and nationals traveling abroad to enroll their trip with the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate. https://step.state.gov/step/ By enrolling in STEP, you will: - Receive important information from the Embassy about safety conditions in your destination country, helping you make informed decisions about your travel plans. - Help the U.S. Embassy contact you in an emergency, whether natural disaster, civil unrest, or family emergency. - Help family and friends get in touch with you in an emergency. POWER PLUG & ADAPTORS The standard electrical current used in Chile is 220 volts AC (50 Hz Cycle) and you can use power plugs C & L. The type C electrical plug (or Europlug) is a two-wire plug that has two round pins. The type L electrical plug has two round pins, with a grounding pin in the middle. Type C Type L WEATHER, CURRENCY, & TIME ZONE The town of Antofagasta has a mild desert climate with abundant sunshine and strong maritime influence. May is characterized by gradually falling daily high temperatures, with daily highs around 65°F and daily low temperatures around 56°F throughout the month. Chile's national currency is the Chilean peso (CH$) which comes in denominations of 500, 1000, 2000, 5000, 10,000 and 20,000 pesos. Coin values are one, five, 10, 50, 100 and 500 pesos Chile Summer Time (CLST) is 3 hours behind Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). Please note Daylight Saving Time Ends May 14, 2017 - 12:00:00 midnight clocks are turned backward 1 hour to Saturday, May 13, 2017, 11:00:00 pm local standard time instead. Chile Standard Time (CLT) is 4 hours behind Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). ANTOFAGASTA: La perla del norte, or the pearl of the north, is a city between the desert and the sea.
