P R I N C I P L E S Similarity: objects that look similar, often perceived as a group or a pattern Figure/Ground: the eye differentiates an object from its surrounding area. A form is perceived as figure while surrounding area is perceived as the ground Closure: occurs when an object in incomplete or a space isn’t filled in, people percieve the whole by filling in the missing information Continuation: when the eye is compelled to move through one object and continue through another Simplicity: our mind perceives everything in its simplest form Proximity: when elements are placed together they tend to be perceived as a group
