Important Announcements: Language Arts: Nightly Reading Homework Our goal is to help our students build reading stamina this school year. Students will be asked to read 20 or more pages of his/her chapter book five nights a week for the remainder of the school year. Reading logs will be checked every Friday morning. Reading goals are based on students’ independent reading levels and minutes/days read per week. As a reminder, the next AR Point Goals are due on February 12th. Reading Information: We will begin studying the California Mission System. Your child will be completing a mission research report at school. Specific information will be coming home on February 2nd. LCM Geography Bee Congratulations to our Room 7 Geo Bee participants! Scarlett H, Eva, and Ben S did a fantastic job! Congratulations to 5th grader, Aaron Espinoza, for winning the LCM Geo Bee! Good luck to Aaron as he moves on to the written test to qualify for the State Geo Bee. 4th Grade Annual Putt Putt Challenge: Creativity, Ingenuity, Resourcefulness… 4th Graders have the opportunity to design and create a putt putt hole for our LCM Mini Golf Course (individually or with another 4th grade student). Students may only use items that are currently found at home. Please do not purchase items. All parts must be created (hole, club, and ball)! Our Putt Putt Challenge will be held on Thursday, January 22nd. This is an optional learning opportunity. Please drop off supplies Wednesday after school or Thursday before school. All supplies must be taken home on Thursday afternoon! Time for Kids Magazine Please take some time during the week to allow your student to summarize the cover story. Ask text dependent questions that will require him/her to reread the article to locate the information needed. Homework will accompany the magazine and will be due on Thursday. Students will take a quiz on Thursday using their magazine to access information. Reading Literature: Students will read the story, “The Boss of the Plains.” This historical biography focuses on the life of John Stetson, the famous hat maker, who had to think creatively to make his dreams come true. Library: We will meet with Mrs. Schneider for our library time on Fridays. Students need to return/renew their library books each Friday. IMPORTANT REMINDERS: At LCM we make, “Every Minute Count”.
