The trial consisted of 23 treatments arranged in a RCBD with four experimental replicates. Potatoes were planted on 28 Apr 2010 at the University of Wisconsin’s, Hancock Agricultural Research Station (HARS) near Hancock, WI. Plots were 2 rows wide and 20 ft (6.1 m) long with unplanted guard rows on either side ore experimental plots. Rows were planted on a 3 ft row center (0.9 m) with 12 inches (0.3 m) between plants, in an 8 tier field design with 12 ft (3.7 m) alleys between tiers. All in-furrow treatments were applied in 1.1 L of water at 9.1 gpa on 28 Apr 2010 using a single nozzle boom equipped with an XR8002VS flat fan spray tip powered by a CO2 backpack sprayer at 30psi. Furrows were cut using a commercial potato planter without closing discs attached. Seed treatments were applied in 0.15 L of water on 27 Apr 2010 using a single nozzle boom applying 9.1 gpa equipped with an XR8002VS flat fan spray tip powered by a CO2 backpack sprayer at 30 psi. Immediately after the treatments were applied over top of seed pieces, and all seed treatments were placed in open furrows, all seed was covered. In-furrow applications on 28 Apr occurred between 12:00 - 14:30 hours and application conditions were recorded as a southeast wind at 5 mph (8.1 kph), 64o F (17.8o C) air temperature, 62% RH, under mostly cloudy conditions with a 3 inch (7.6 cm) soil temp at the time of application of 59° F (15.0o C). All plots were maintained according to standard commercial practices. Stand counts were conducted on 20 May (22 DAP) by counting the number of emerged plants per 20 ft. section of row. Control of CPB was assessed by counting the number of adults (AD), egg masses (EM), small larvae (SL), large larvae (LL) and percent defoliation (%DF) on 10 plants in each plot. Control of PLH was assessed by counting the number of nymphs (NY) and adults (AD) on 10 plants in each plot. Control of aphids was assessed by counting the number of aphids on 10 plants in each plot. Insect counts occurred on several dates throughout the summer, and means are reported as averages over dates. Experimental plots were mechanically harvested from a single row of the two-row plots and weighed and graded at the HARS. Count data were log10 transformed prior to analysis. Means were separated using ANOVA with a Fisher’s Protected LSD at the 0.05 level of significance. Populations of CPB were considered average to above average in this potato field trial as defoliation in the UTC plots was nearing 10% by the time the initial foliar applications were applied in mid-Jun. Significant treatment effects with the DPX HGW86 5.22FS seed and in-furrow treatments, Belay 2.13SC seed treatments, AdmirePro 4.6FS pre-mixes were observed relative to the untreated control including CPB larvae and % defoliation. All treatments except the DPX HGW86 alone provided effective control of PLH adults and nymphs. All treatments resulted in significantly higher tuber yields than the untreated control plots. No signs of phytotoxicity were observed. 1 Arthropod Management Tests 2011, Vol. 36 doi: 10.4182/amt.2011.E61 Mean count / plant, averaged over dates in parentheses Chemical 1 Untreated Control DPX-HGW86 5.22 FS DPX-HGW86 1.67 SC DPX-HGW86 1.67 SC AdmirePro 4.6 FS AdmirePro 4.6 FS Belay 2.13 SC Belay 2.13 SC Moncoat 7.5 SS Control DPX-HGW86 1.67 SC DPX-HGW86 5.22 FS DPX-HGW86 5.22 FS DPX-HGW86 5.22 FS Titan ST 5 FS DPX-HGW86 5.22 FS Titan ST 5 FS DPX-HGW86 5.22 FS Titan ST 5 FS DPX-HGW86 5.22 FS AdmirePro 4.6 FS DPX-HGW86 5.22 FS AdmirePro 4.6 FS DPX-HGW86 5.22 FS Titan ST 5 FS AdmirePro 4.6 FS AdmirePro 4.6 FS Cruiser 5 FS Cruiser 5 FS - - Rate Application 4.56 fl oz/a 10.3 fl oz/a 13.7 fl oz/a 7 fl oz/a 8.7 fl oz/a 12 fl oz/a 0.6 fl oz/cwt 0.75 lb/cwt 0.62 fl oz/cwt 0.16 fl oz/cwt 0.22 fl oz/cwt 0.16 fl oz/cwt 0.16 fl oz/cwt 0.22 g/100 kg 0.16 fl oz/cwt 0.16 fl oz/cwt 0.08 fl oz/cwt 0.16 fl oz/cwt 0.26 fl oz/cwt 0.22 fl oz/cwt 0.26 fl oz/cwt 0.22 fl oz/cwt 0.16 fl oz/cwt 0.26 fl oz/cwt 0.35 fl oz/cwt 0.12 fl oz/cwt 0.16 fl oz/cwt In Furrow In Furrow In Furrow In Furrow In Furrow In Furrow Seed Trt Seed Trt Seed Trt Seed Trt Seed Trt Seed Trt Seed Trt Seed Trt Seed Trt Seed Trt Seed Trt Seed Trt Seed Trt Seed Trt Seed Trt Seed Trt Seed Trt Seed Trt Seed Trt Seed Trt Seed Trt P LSD CPB-Ad (Jun 2, 7) CPB-EM (Jun 2, 7) CPB-SL (Jun 2, 7, 14) CPB-LL (Jun 14, 22, 29) %DF (Jul 8, 15) 46.4 20.6 21.1 26.6 18.1 20.7 19.9 16.9 4.8a-c 1.8c-g 3.1a-d 1.7c-g 2.0a-f 2.0b-g 0.9fg 1.1d-g 55.5b 2.6c-e 3.8c-e 4.2c-e 8.3cd 10.8c-e 0.3e 3.2de 56.2ab 1.2c-e 10.7c-e 2.2c-e 7.2c-e 14.5c-e 0.7e 0.8de 62.5a 7.9cd 10.8cd 9.3cd 13.8cd 9.2cd 5.0d 13.8cd 45.1 20.0 26.1 21.4 12.5 6.3ab 3.2a-c 2.9b-g 2.8a-e 0.8e-g 72.8a 10.9cd 8.5cd 8.7cd 7.9c-e 61.5a 9.3c-e 14.2bc 9.0c-e 11.0c-e 36.7b 10.8cd 15.8c 10.5cd 7.9cd 18.7 0.5g 12.2c-e 7.2c-e 13.5cd 17.6 1.1c-g 15.6cd 18.3cd 16.7c 16.3 1.2c-g 26.6c 11.7c-e 11.3cd 31.8 0.9d-g 7.7c-e 7.2c-e 15.8c 23.5 17.2 14.7 20.1 14.1 11.2 5.2a 0.5g 0.8d-g 1.3d-g 1.3d-g 0.6fg 9.0c-e 7.2c-e 8.7cd 32.5cd 20.1cd 7.8c-e 19.2bc 8.1c-e 7.1c-e 11.5c-e 7.6c-e 9.0c-e 12.1cd 10.9cd 16.7c 15.8c 11.9cd 12.5cd <.0001 0.5616 <.0001 0.9689 0.0004 0.9529 0.6643 0.8871 <.0001 0.1474 Means in columns followed by the same letter are not significantly different (Fisher’s Protected Least Significant Difference Test, P = 0.05). 1 All treatments except Control and Dipel had MSO 100% MS at 0.25 % v/v 2 Arthropod Management Tests 2011, Vol. 36 doi: 10.4182/amt.2011.E61 Table 1.
