Notes on the Sermon
Our core convictions:
Ecclesiastes 9:1-10
“A Vain Life Well-Lived”
SOLA
SCRIPTURA:
Scripture alone is the
written word of God. The
Bible is the sole and final
authority for faith and
practice.
SOLA GRATIA: God’s grace
alone saves us from God’s
just wrath through the
death of Jesus Christ.
Salvation is not in any
sense a human work or
accomplishment but is
totally and completely the
gift of God.
SOLUS CHRISTUS: Christ
alone is the eternal Son of
God whose sinless life and
atoning death redeem us
for God. Christ alone has
accomplished all that is
necessa ry
f or
our
salvation and eternal life
is found in no one else but
Christ.
SOLA FIDE: Faith alone—
alone
apart from all human work
or merit—is the instrument
of our salvation. Faith is a
gift bestowed upon us in
Christ for our salvation.
God justifies sinners
(declares them right with
Himself) by grace alone
through faith alone
because of Christ alone.
SOLI DEO GLORIA: God’s
glory alone is to be the
purpose for which we live
and the aim of our
worship.
We believe
worship should affect daily
life. For this reason, we
seek to focus on God in
our worship rather than
entertainment values or
personal needs.
The
Church gathers on the
Lord’s Day to rejoice in the
mighty acts of God and to
worship Him in ways He
has commanded and that
are consistent with the
principles of His word.

Our Father, who art in heaven; Hallowed be Thy name.

For Thine is the kingdom, and the power

Psalm 108
Verses 1-6
1
2
3
4
5
6
God, my heart is steadfast;
I will sing praises.
And with all my being
to You my song I’ll sing.
Waken harp and psalt’ry;
dawn I will awaken,
With many peoples, LORD, I thanks will bring.
LORD, among the peoples
I’ll sing Your praises,
From among the nations
my praise to You will rise.
For Your lovingkindness
is above the heavens,
Your faithfulness extends into the skies.
God, above the heavens
O be exalted,
And above all earth may
Your glory lifted be;
So that Your beloved
then may be delivered,
Save with Your right hand; answer give to me.

Holy, Holy, Holy
Holy, holy, holy!
Lord God Almighty!
Early in the morning
our song shall rise to Thee.
Holy, holy, holy!
Merciful and mighty!
God in three Persons, blessed Trinity!
Holy, holy, holy!
Lord God Almighty!
All Thy works shall praise Thy name
in earth and sky and sea.
Holy, holy, holy!
Merciful and mighty!
God in three Persons, blessed Trinity!

Open Our Eyes, Lord
Open our eyes, Lord, we want to see Jesus,
To reach out and touch Him,
and say that we love Him.
Open our ears, Lord, and help us to listen,
Open our eyes, Lord, we want to see Jesus.

Whate’er My God Ordains
Is Right
Whate’er my God ordains is right:
Holy His will abideth;
I will be still whate’er He does,
And follow where He guideth.
He is my God; though dark my road,
He holds me that I shall not fall;
Wherefore to Him I leave it all.
Whate’er my God ordains is right:
He never will deceive me;
He leads me by the proper path;
I know He will not leave me.
I take, content, what He hath sent;
His hand can turn my griefs away,
And patiently I wait His day.
Whate’er my God ordains is right:
Though now this cup, in drinking,
May bitter seem to my faint heart,
I take it, all unshrinking.
My God is true; each morn anew
Sweet comfort yet shall fill my heart,
And pain and sorrow shall depart.
Whate’er my God ordains is right:
Here shall my stand be taken;
Though sorrow, need, or death be mine,
Yet I am not forsaken.
My Father’s care is round me there;
He holds me that I shall not fall:
And so to Him I leave it all.

Turn Your Eyes
Upon Jesus
O soul, are you weary and troubled?
No light in the darkness you see?
There’s light for a look at the Savior,
And life more abundant and free!
Through death into life everlasting
He passed, and we follow Him there;
Over us sin no more hath dominion—
For more than conqu’rors we are!
Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face;
And the things of earth
will grow strangely dim
in the light of His glory and grace.
His Word shall not fail you—He promised;
Believe Him and all will be well:
Then go to a world that is dying,
His perfect salvation to tell.

Psalm Notes
Psalm 108 is a psalm of David composed of elements from two
previous psalms—57:7
57:757:7-11 and 60:560:5-12.
12 Truths previously uttered
are applied to a new situation in this psalm.
Psalm 108 is concerned with the warfare of the believer and gives
thanks in advance for the triumph of the Lord’s just cause. There is
much we can learn from this.
We are warriors engaged in a spiritual struggle (Ephesians
6:12). Complacency brings spiritual danger.
We are to engage in worship before we engage in warfare.
Heartfelt praise (108:1-5) and believing prayer (108:6) are ever
the effective weapons of God’s people. David was a mighty
warrior, but before the battle his heart was resolved to first give
thanksgiving and praise to God and to seek His favor. He who
bows before God will be strengthed to stand before men.
Our strength comes from God—”Finally, my brethren, be strong
in the Lord and in the power of His might.” (Ephesians 6:10)
Victory is certain. “Therefore take up the whole armor of God,
that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having
done all, to stand.” (Ephesians 6:13)
