Register Here Free Now! “We defend Japan. We defend Germany. We defend
South Korea. We defend Saudi Arabia. We defend
countries. They do not pay us what they should be
paying us because we are providing a tremendous service
and we’re losing a fortune.” Donald Trump during 1st presidential debate
To the contrary, the governments of South Korea and
Japan have paid billions to support US bases in their
countries, as part of their obligations as U.S. allies. On April 18, millions of Americans will pay their taxes,
which will go towards financing the $596 billion dollar
military industrial complex, the world’s largest, and more
than the next nine largest spenders combined. In 2017,
President Trump has requested an additional $54 billion
for socalled defense, a 10 percent increase, while making
drastic cuts to social welfare programs for children,
women, and the elderly. On Tax Day, Women Cross DMZ will host an international
webinar with leading women experts from South Korea,
Japan and the United States on the true costs of the
unresolved Korean conflict on women’s security in their
countries. Speakers:
Jeongae AhnKim, Representative of Women Making
Peace, South Korea
Kozue Akibayashi, WILPF International President,
Doshisha University, Japan
Kathy Crandall Robinson, Senior Fellow, Women in
International Security, USA
Moderated by Christine Ahn, Women Cross DMZ, USA
