Certified coffee at IKEA

Certified coffee
at IKEA
Why certified coffee?
We sell and serve a lot of coffee every day,
and want you to know that it was produced
in a responsible and sustainable way. That is
why we have decided that all coffee at IKEA
shall be UTZ Certified, and traceable all the
way back to the plantations.
UTZ Certified is an independent not-forprofit organization that sets a standard for
responsible coffee growing and sourcing.
UTZ Certified has a broad approach to
sustainability, taking both people and the
environment into consideration. To become
certified, producers and cooperatives must
conform to a lot of requirements. Among
other things, all employees must be trained
within health and safety procedures. Also,
workers and their families must have access
to proper healthcare and schools. Producers
and cooperatives must also comply with
numerous demands to reduce their impact
on the environment. Minimizing the use of
energy, water, fertilizers, and pesticides is one
of them. Preventing soil erosion is another.
Responsibly produced coffee at attractive
prices, and improved conditions at the
plantations – a win-win situation all the way
from the farmer to your coffee cup.
Trace your coffee!
The taste and quality is always the same for
each IKEA coffee variety. But the plantations
the beans derive from may vary from one
package to another.
So, what if I really want to know, you ask. Well
– no problem! Go to the tracer tool at
www.utzcertified.org/IKEA.
Choose the type of coffee you have bought
and enter the best-before date printed on the
package. Then you will find out exactly which
plantations your coffee originates from, and
get to know a lot about them.
We have a coffee for every taste, all of them are UTZ Certified.

This is how you do it:
When making the coffee, make sure that the
coffee pot and filter basket are free from old
coffee, as this might ruin the aroma. As the
water hits the ground coffee, it should be
between 92-96°C. Ideally, the coffee should
brew from five to six minutes, so never make
less than four cups. Don’t keep the coffee on
the heating plate too long. If not drinking it
right away, it’s better to put it in a thermos.

How to make good filter coffee:
Filter coffee is the most common type of coffee in Sweden. Store your coffee dry, dark,
and cool - the fridge is ideal. An opened
pack will keep fresh for about two weeks. It
will loose aroma gradually, so never expose
it to air unnecessarily. For example by pouring it into another container.
