The Argory
Estate
Overview
The Argory can be described as
an ‘atmosphere time capsule’.
Built in 1824, the house was
designed in the neo-classical
style and donated to the
National Trust in 1900 to
preserve. As you travel away
from the house, the grounds
surrounding the grand building
gradually merge with the
stunning woodland
environment.
Points of interest
Blackwater River - herons and
kingfishers frequent the area
This is where walkers get into
their stride and explore several
marked trails through trees and
along the Blackwater River. The
Lime Tree Walk is one of the
most popular Blackwater River
walks here. It takes you along
the avenue of pollarded lime
trees under-planted by snow
drops and spring flowers. This
walk passes The Argory Oak
Plantation, returning to the
house by its main driveway.
This particular walk is also
wheel chair-friendly.
