Homework Tasks
Reading
Teaching children to read and reading for pleasure remains a strong focus this year.
Please continue to read with your children. It doesn’t matter how old your child is
everyone benefits from reading to an adult.
Please ensure that you listen to your child and sign their reading book at least 3 times a
week – but daily reading would make such a huge improvement to your Childs reading
and comprehension skills.
Phonics and Spelling
Phonics is an essential part of a comprehensive approach to the teaching of reading.
Spelling - Learning spelling words is important to your child’s future. Spelling words
help lay the basic foundation that your child will need throughout their education and
life.
Spelling is important because it aids in reading. It helps cement the connection that is
shared between sounds and letters. Learning high frequency sight words also has been
shown to help with both reading and writing. This is why pupils learn sight words during
their early years.
Maths
Number Bonds and Four Rules.
Research shows that learning key facts ‘by heart’ enables children to concentrate on
the calculation which helps them to develop calculation strategies.
Times Tables
The National Curriculum states that children should be able to recall all times tables up
to 12x12 by the end of Year 4. Times tables are so important and many children find a
range of mathematical concepts difficult due to their poor ability to recall
multiplication facts. Therefore the more that children practise and learn by rote the
easier further mathematical problems become.
These are tasks that can be completed by all children with support from parents.
Regular practice of the above tasks are vital for your child/ren to succeed with
their learning. Therefore we there will be no homework club this term.
ATTENDANCE & PUNCTUALITY
A reminder about ATTENDANCE & PUNCTUALITY
Good attendance continues to be a priority.
 If in doubt, send your child in.
 Ring the school office on the first morning of your child’s absence on 01594
842789 or send a message through on Parentmail.
 Send in a letter on your child’s return to school.
 If at all possible, avoid medical appointments during the school day. If
unavoidable, please bring in evidence of the appointment for our records.
 In line with Attendance policy, we do not authorize any holidays during term
time. However, please fill in an ‘Application for leave of absence in term time’
form to inform us of any plans.
 If your child is late, he/she must register at the Main Office.
 Please ring the school if you are unavoidably delayed when picking up at
hometime.
A reminder about UNIFORM & PE KIT.
The children really do look smart in their uniform and are a credit to you and our
school.
Please could we remind you to LABEL all of the items of uniform, coats and PE kit –
including daps. It really does help to reduce the amount of lost property in school.
Please for safety reasons ensure that your child only wears stud earrings.
PE kit should be kept in school for each half term, when it will be sent home to
freshen up.

Young Voices
Choir will be taking part in the Young Voices concert at Birmingham on 25th January.
We are looking forward to a wonderful evening of singing, dancing and cheering; if it’s
anything like the previous years we will have no voices left at the end of the event.
