ABOUT SYMPOSIUM
Agriculture is the world's single largest employer and is probably the most weather
dependent of all human activities. Agricultural planning and the use of agricultural technology need
agrometeorological analyses. The growing interest in the possible impact of natural and human induced
climate variability and long-term climate change on agriculture and forestry have created new demands for
information from, and assessments by agrometeorologists. Advanced climate change risk assessments for
agriculture and food security depend on robust and reliable modelling tools. Crop models plays a central role
as they are at the core of any climate impact assessment for the agricultural sector. Thus, the need for
reorienting and recasting meteorological information, fine tuning of climatic analysis and presentation in
forms suitable for agricultural decision making has become more pressing. The advancement in geospatial
technology however has provided a platform where high resolution geospatial data can be generated,
analyzed and used in policy formation.
The
challenge
in
front
of
the
agrometeorologists,
agroecologists
and
environmentalists around the world is that more than ever before, there is a great need to more effectively
integrate and deploy the skills developed in operational, experimental and theoretical aspects of agricultural
meteorology and allied sciences to make production in systems of agriculture and forestry more reliable,
more efficient and above all more equitable in the world at large.
Major Themes
пѓјResponding Climate Change through Managing Climatic Variability
пѓјMicrometeorological Manipulation for Enhancing Agricultural Productivity
пѓј Advances in Biometeorology
пѓј New Tools and Techniques in Geospatial Technology for Agromet Applications
пѓј Natural Resource Management for Sustainable Agriculture
пѓјSoil Health Management under Changing Environment
пѓјCrop Modeling & Weather Forecasting
пѓјPest and Disease Interaction with Environment
пѓјMeteorological Applications in Horticulture & Agroforestry
пѓјRole of Meteorology in Disaster Risk Reduction
пѓјPrecision Farming and Agrometeorological Information
Industrial Exhibition
Exhibition of the variety of weather Instruments, automated systems, green house gas
monitoring systems, remote sensing tools, GIS, GPS system is being arranged during symposium. A separate
market place will be provided to the interested industrial partners on nominal sponsorship. For more detail,
interested companies may directly contact with Dr A.S. Nain, Organizing Secretary at
agrometeorology.pantvarsity@gmail.com, or nain_ajeet@hotmail.com.
ABOUT ASSOCIATION
Association of Agrometeorologists has been established in the year 1999 at Anand Agricultural University, Anand,
India. It is untiringly pursuing Agrometeorological advancement in the country and providing inter-institutional platform for sharing
innovative ideas. Association has instituted various awards to encourage research in Agrometeorology. Association is currently having
more than 900 life members and many annual members. Association is regularly publishing Journal of Agrometeorology (NAAS Rating
6.15) and also supporting organization of seminar / symposium / workshop etc in the country. More information about Association
may be found at www.agrimetassociation.org.
ABOUT UNIVERSITY
Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar, which has the distinction of being the
first Agriculture University of India, was established in 1960 based on the Land Grant Pattern of U.S.A. It was inaugurated by the 1st
Prime Minister of India, Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru on 17th November, 1960. The University is better known as "Harbinger of Green
Revolution” in India and has been honoured twice with the Best Institution Award by ICAR. In the year 2007-08, Government of India
recognized the University as “Institution of Excellence” and allocated a special grant of Rs 50 crores. University has 6 different
constituent colleges, Directorate of Experiment Station, Directorate of Extension Education and many on-campus and off-campus
research stations. University is situated in the lush green and beautiful foothills of Himalayas. The G.B. Pant University is a symbol of
successful partnership between India and the United States. The weather is pleasant at Pantnagar during October with occasional
light showers, which makes stay very comfortable and enjoyable.
ABOUT COLLEGE
College of Agriculture was established on 17th November 1960 and is the most prestigious constituent college of
University. College is offering two graduate programes and 14 M.Sc and 11 PhD programmes through its 11 departments. College is
equipped with many state of the art laboratories and facilities. College has played a key role in green revolution and has helped to
develop more than 252 high yielding varieties and many technologies for different crops. Agriculture college at Pantnagar has laid
foundation of modern agricultural education in country.
ABOUT DEPARTMENT
Department of Agrometeorology was established in the year 2000 and was given the mandate of carrying out
research in the field of effect of weather on plants. The application of geospatial technology (RS, GIS, GPS) for the management of
agricultural resources in most sustainable way was another important task that has been assigned to the department. Considering the
expertise of the faculty in the Geospatial technology, ICAR has given a mega Niche Area of Excellence project on “Geo-informatics for
Natural Resource Management and Precision Farming”.
CALL FOR PAPERS
Original research papers, covering one or more of the above themes are invited for presentations. Extended
abstracts in English not exceeding 300 words may be submitted online through the website www.nasa2014.in or can be
mailed directly to agrometeorology.pantvarsity@gmail.com. The Abstracts will be screened by the committee and the
authors will be requested to submit full-length manuscripts (by 20th September 2014). Selected papers will be peer
reviewed by the eminent referees and the successful full length paper will be published in the special issue of Journal of
Agrometeorology (NAAS rating 6.15). Full length papers should be prepared in the format of Journal of
Agrometeorology. Further details regarding editorial instructions for abstracts submission are also available on the
website. Any further clarification may be obtained by sending an email to the Organizing Secretary
agrometeorology.pantvarsity@gmail.com.
AWARDS
The presentation / posters will be evaluated by a jury of eminent scientists. Best presentation /posters will be awarded
in the valedictory function of symposium on day three i.e. on 18th October 2014.

Uttar Pradesh. It is rich in natural resources especially water
and forests with many glaciers, rivers, dense forests
and snow-clad mountain peaks. Char-dhams, the
