Four Chaplains Ceremony
The American Legion Post 336 at190 Glen Head
Road, will host The Four Chaplains Ceremony
on Sunday, February 8 at 2pm. The ceremony
honors the four chaplains that were on The
Dorchester, a converted cruise ship, packed
with 900 soldiers, seamen and civilians, headed
for Greenland when attacked by a German
submarine on February 3, 1943. The four
chaplains on board, a Catholic priest, a Rabbi
and two Protestant Ministers, comforted the
men, prayed with them, calmed them, looked
for life jackets and ultimately gave up their own
life jackets and their lives so that others could
be saved. Anyone wishing to attend is welcome.
Refreshments will follow the ceremony.

Dear Parishioners,
"He grasped her hand and held her up. Mark1:3
A few weeks ago in the Scriptures from the prophet Isaiah this image of God "grasping us by the
hand" really hit me. It has resonating with me these past few weeks. I just really love that image of
God not just holding our hand but rather grasping it. The imagery of grasping is so much richer then
simply holding. Grasping implies a desire to never let go. In the Gospel today we hear that Jesus
grasps the hand and helped up St Peter's mother. Think about that....we are so loved by Jesus that He
wants to grasp our hand and help us up in the difficulties we sometimes encounter in life. Job in our
first reading has encountered some truly painful moment. What he expresses today is that despair we
can sometimes feel when life becomes burdensome. Job cries out in that pain . Those words can be a
comfort for us if we are struggling, knowing even people of faith have felt that darkening of the night.
Job will continue that vein for a few more chapters till he speaks directly to God. God will speak to him
words of hope.
We don't have to wait for the end of Job's dialogue. We have that hope right now...TODAY. As Jesus
grasped the hand and helped up St Peter's mother, He wants to do the same for us each and everyday.
But how often can we push away the grasping hand that Jesus reaches out to us. Pride, pain and
wallowing in self pity we can refuse the help Jesus offers especially through the people He puts in our
life or the aids that are supplied. As Catholic Christians we are not only called to be the grasping hand
of Jesus...we are also called to accept that hand offered to us as a gift from others. We are loved and
Jesus will grasp us and help us to our feet. The question is...are we willing to accept that loving hand?
The Renovation and Restoration of our Church moves forward. Much work has been done, while
much still needs to be accomplished. I am so grateful to the Committee for all the time and energy they
have put in to make our design so beautiful. We met last week to finalize the wall and pew colors.
Listed below is some of the work accomplished:
 the stain glass windows have been resealed
 the handicap accessible bathrooms are framed out and waiting for plumping
 pews have been sent out to be striped and re-stained
 the old platform in the sanctuary has been taken out and the original open space
and flooring has been revealed
 the replacement terrazzo floor is all poured.
 the shine of St. Boniface has been framed and is being built
 we will be putting in energy efficient water heaters for the bathrooms. This should see
a savings of almost $2,000.00 a year
 the leaks in the roof and pointings have been sealed
 almost all the LED lights have been installed
 we are waiting on the new sound system
We have begun to compile the names of the benefactors and those to be memorialized on the back
wall. You will be contacted by mail so we may confirm what you want the names listed on the plaque.
If you have not been part of the Capital Campaign and want the names of family or of your beloved
dead, it is not too late to sign up.
I encourage you to support through prayer and donation the work of our Youth Group’s upcoming
Midnight Run.
In Jesus,
Fr. Bob

The youth group is meeting on Sunday, February 8,
from 6pm-8pm in the Parish Center. All 8th-12th
graders are invited! The Youth Group will be
participating in their fifth Midnight Run on March 7
in New York City. Midnight Run is an organization
established to connect youth groups to the homeless
of New York. Our Youth Group will be collecting new
and gently used clothing, toiletries and food from the
parishes and delivering the supplies in person to
those in need. This type of profound experience is
not only an opportunity for the youth, but for the
parish as a whole to come together and be hands of
Christ to those most in need. If you wish to donate
new or gently used clothing there will be baskets in
the front of the church for items until March 1. Your
donations and prayers are greatly appreciated as we
journey together through this awesome experience!

St. Vincent de Paul Society
In the Gospel today, we find that Jesus
would rise very early before dawn, go to
a deserted place to pray and go out to
preach and to heal. Praying for the poor
can bring the love and peace of Jesus to
those who live in fear and doubt, loneliness and
dread. Thank you for your support! Furniture and
financial donations welcome. You are too! Come join
the St. Vincent de Paul Society and become a
communal part of your parish.
