Letter from the Principal
Dear Collegiate Families,
There is excitement in the
air today as our students in
grades 5-8 experience Move
Up Day, an immersion opportunity which we are able
to offer as a K-12 school.
The purpose behind this
exercise is to provide students with a smoother transition from their current
grade level to next year’s
grade level by exposing
them to scheduling differences and allowing them to
become acquainted with
the teachers and staff they
will work closely with next
year. The program also allows students to “try out”
some of the elective courses they may be considering
for next year in the middle
and high school so that they
can make informed choices
during the selection process
taking place at the end of
the year.
Collegiate’s High School
dual credit classes were
audited this week by the
North Central Association’s
Higher Learning Commission
which accredits colleges in
our region. The group observed our teachers in the
courses that we offer which
also receive college credit
A belated
thank you
through CCU. The HLC’s
role is to ensure that these
courses are being taught
with the rigor and standards of a college level
classroom. Our observer
was extremely impressed
with the level of coursework in our classrooms and
we received high marks on
our review. Great job to
our excellent teaching
staff!!
As we plan for 2015/16
staffing, scheduling and
budgeting, I want to remind
you that today is the last
day to submit continuation
of enrollment information
for the next school year.
The Intent to Attend
2015/16 form has been
available online at this link;
it is very important that
you complete this form as
soon as possible so that we
can reserve your student(s)
places for the 15/16 school
year. We are now in the
Second Round Choice Enrollment window, which
means that we are receiving applications daily and
accepting new students for
next year on a first come,
first served basis. We absolutely want to ensure that
current students are given
priority, but we NEED to
receive your “Intent to Attend” form to hold your
student’s seat! If you’ve
not already done so, please
fill out your intent form
today!
Finally, we have a couple of
school activities coming up
in the next week that I
want to draw your attention to. First, Monday is our
Spirit Night at Texas Roadhouse from 5-9pm. Please
consider joining us for dinner and great activities for
the kids! Then, on Thursday, February 26, we celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday
with a variety of reading
and literacy-centered activities that are fun for the
whole family. Please feel
free to invite families that
might consider sending
their children to Collegiate
in the future too. We look
forward to sharing the wild
and whimsical world of
Seuss with you!

Senior Spotlight ~ Cooper Zilkenat
This week we are shining the
spotlight on Cooper Zilkenat!
Cooper started attending Collegiate when he moved here from
Virginia in the 4th grade.
Cooper enjoys many activities
including skiing and playing his
guitar. He listens to various
music genres, reads, and
watches movies. He loves satirical comedy like The Onion and
playing board games with his
family and friends.
Cooper was accepted at Colorado University and Colorado
State University.
Cooper has decided to attend
Colorado State University’s
Biomedical & Chemical Engineering Program.
Terrific job Cooper! You have
a bright future ahead of you!
Flu season has
drained our supply of
Kleenex on both ends
of the building.
Please consider dropping off a box or two
at either front desk.
~ Thank you!
Box Tops
We have small toys, drinks, and
snacks available for purchase
after school every day of the
week for cash or Box Tops. We
do ask that children have permission before shopping so that
carpool is not affected.
Please turn in all of your Box
Tops by Feb. 23rd because we
will be redeeming them at
that time. Our final box top
submission will be the week
after school gets out.
I want to share that we receive
about $1500 per year from Box
Tops For Education. I was personally shocked to know how
much those $.10 coupons add
up to for our students.
~ Thank you for taking

Collegiate Academy is a community-founded and run charter
school. Authorized by Jeffco
Public Schools, CAC operates
autonomously under the direction
of its own Board of Directors.
The Board received one letter of
interest from a parent by the
deadline and will still need to fill
multiple positions with parents
and an additional at-large member after the election.
The CAC Board of Directors consists of five elected parents, two
at-large community member, the
administrative team, two high
school students elected by the
student body, one elementary
teacher, and one upper school
teacher elected by the teaching staff.
Holding a position on the Board
of Directors is an excellent opportunity to have direct input in
your child’s education.
