Family Worship Maundy Thursday, April 2nd at 7:00 pm Tenebrae A Service of Shadows The service of Tenebrae, meaning “darkness” or “shadows,” has been practiced by the church since medieval times. Once a service for the monastic community, Tenebrae later became an important part of the worship of the common folk during Holy Week. We join Christians of many generations throughout the world in using the liturgy of Tenebrae. Tenebrae is a prolonged meditation on Christ’s suffering. Readings trace the story of Christ’s passion, music portrays his pathos, and the power of silence and darkness suggests the drama of this momentous day. As lights are extinguished, we ponder the depth of Christ’s suffering and death; we remember the cataclysmic nature of his sacrifice as we hear the overwhelming sound of the “strepitus;” and through the return of the small but persistent flame of the Christ candle at the conclusion of the service, we anticipate the joy of ultimate victory. Thursday we begin our Maundy Service with prayer, song, a powerful confession, and an assurance of pardon. We will receive Communion, giving thanks to the Lord our God for his perfect gift of Jesus Christ, and participating in the sacrament he instituted at our Lord’s Last Supper on Maundy Thursday. After we have prepared ourselves with the bread and cup of Christ, we are ready to enter a night of shadows and darkening of lights. Ten readings will be shared, until Christ has died; ten candles will be extinguished, until all is dark. An earthquake of sound from our organ will signal Christ’s death and all light will be gone. In the darkest night, there remains yet God’s power, forever. A light will shine…. 9:30 am Egg Hunt 10:00 am Worship Communion 11:15 am Butterfly Release Easter 10:00 am Worship 11:15 am Deacons Meeting Prime Time and Choir rehearsals 5 29 Palm Sunday Sunday 7:00 pm Vision Ministry Monday 6 30 6:30 pm AA 2:00 pm Adult Study 6:30 pm AA 7 31 2:00 pm Adult Study Tuesday 8 8:00 am Communion 12:00 noon Lunch Bunch 6:00 pm Adult Study 7:00 pm Choir rehearsal 12:00 noon Adult Fellowship 6:00 pm Adult Study 6:30 pm BCEO 7:00 pm Choir April 1 Wednesday 7:00 pm AA 6:30 pm BCEO 7:00 pm Worship 7:00 pm AA Maundy Thursday Thursday 9 2 10:00 am Prayer Fellowship 10 7:30 pm Worship in Ft.
