Make your Coffee Count for
Alzheimer’s Disease
(Barrie, ON) July 30, 2014 – Local residents, organizations and businesses are being
asked to ‘make their coffee count,’ by taking part in the Alzheimer Society of Simcoe
County Coffee Break® campaign this fall. The event raises funds to support those living
with the disease, their families and care partners in our community. Now in its 18th year,
Coffee Break® is the Alzheimer Society’s largest community-based fundraiser. To date,
Coffee Break® has raised over $15 million for local Alzheimer Society programs and services across Canada.
A Coffee Break® can be any type of activity that raises funds for the Society. Events
range from serving coffee in exchange for a donation, to hosting a bake sale or raising
funds through the sale of paper coffee cup cut-outs at events and retail locations.
Coffee Break® officially kicks off in September and runs to the end of October. Hosts
can choose when to host their event. Businesses can also participate by selling coffee cup
cut-outs.
In 2013, the Alzheimer Society of Simcoe County raised over $44,000 during the
Coffee Break® campaign. This year, the goal is to raise $55,000.
To register to host a Coffee Break® or for more information, call Lisa Richardson at
705-722-1066, ext. 229.
Thank you!
Once again this year, on behalf of the Board of Directors, staff and residents at People
In Transition, “My Sister’s Place” Women and Children’s Shelter, I would like to thank our
wonderful volunteers and the Town of New Tecumseth (especially the Public Works
Department) for your ongoing support of our annual Road Toll. We were surprised and honored this year by the sheer amount of support for our agency from the community. In our
15th year of hosting this one event, the Road Tolls in Alliston, Tottenham and Beeton were
a HUGE success and we were able to fundraise $9,782.20 for the organization.
Traditionally, this event has been one of the most successful for our agency and we look
forward to many more in future years. Without your support, we would not be able to offer
our services to women and children in the South Simcoe Communities. To learn more about

Hello from The Karate Dojo!
We trust everyone is enjoying the summer weather and associated activities you may be
indulging in with family and friends. School's out, with the exception of The Karate Dojo

turned 70 years young honouring us by celebrating here in Canada.
Instructors / Owners Steve and Anna Lynch were accompanied by Ryan Armes, Olivia
Gaffiero, Karissa Kane, Julian Lynch and Patti Armes strongly representing The Karate
Dojo and the community in the training seminars and the IMGKA Championships. Five
medals were obtained by the Team (Yushinkai Karate Team) with Ryan Armes placing 1st
in forms! Additionally the Team had the opportunity to personally meet and speak with Yagi
Meitatsu Sensei and his sons Akihito sensei and Akihiro sensei. A great opportunity for
these young students of Karate!

nother highlight of the
evening was the fitness
display, which must
have taken the cadets hours of
planning and practice to achieve
the sort of coordination and stunning movements that wowed the
spectators. Hundreds of cadets
took the audience on a whirlwind
tour of the many sports and activities that they enjoyed throughout
the summer, ending in a beautifully constructed human pyramid
with random cadets flying
through the air in acrobatics
around it.
A drill portion brought the ceremony to its finish as one hun-
dred cadet guard paraded, and
treated the audience to a rarely
seen feu de joie , where the cadets
fire three shots of their weapons
into the sky. The cadets did themselves, and their officers proud
with this year’s display, a tribute
to the discipline and training provided by the dedicated staff of the
Blackdown Camp, proving, once
again, that Blackdown’s cadets
are among Canada’s finest.

as it marks August 9, 1974, when an aircraft carrying 9 Canadian Peacekeepers was shot down

Bartley gave each of the Silver Cross families a
recording of the song.
Thank you to the many community members

deserve.
“Please remember that the achievements of

Après le dépôt de couronnes, Mary Florence
Bartley a chanté, cette année encore, « More than
BFC Borden.
