TIPS for success from John
26
• Skating is a marathon and not
a sprint.
There are no
shortcuts to success.
Only
through hard work, dedication
and determination will you be
successful.
•
Sometimes the chase is more
rewarding than the catch.
Enjoy the journey of skating.
You WILL land that next trick
you are working on. Maybe
not today, but if you keep

working on it, you WILL get it.
Never give Up.

Sharpen Your Blades
Do you speak figure skating? Ever wonder what your skaters
are talking about when they say.....
....Today I learned a Mazurka
• A Mazurka .. named after a Polish dance is a simple half turn
skating jump, of which there are many variations. Often from
a back outside edge, the skater strikes the toe of the other
foot into the ice, lands on the toe of the opposite foot (which
has passed in front of the toe-in-front), pushing onto a
forward outside edge as they do so.

Take a Bow
Cheyenne King lands her double Axel! After about 3 years of working on
this very difficult jump, Cheyenne landed a clean "2A" off the harness
recently.
This jump is a milestone achievement for skaters. Like the single Axel, many
skaters spend countless hours of practice and have countless bruises to
show for their efforts. .
This past year Cheyenne has struggled with a number of injuries and
disappointments. She even questioned whether or not to continue skating.
But after 2 months off the ice she realized how much she missed it. When
she returned to the ice she had a new perspective on her skating, new goals
and a new outlook.
Congratulations Cheyenne! If you want to see this moment on video click
