In our call of service we accept the responsibility to evangelize within our own community and beyond… to collaborate in the spirit of ecumenism. As a sacramental people we come together for Word and nourishment, welcoming and celebrating new life through Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist. We are a community that celebrates God’s healing in the Sacraments of Reconciliation and the Anointing of the sick, and God’s love in the Sacrament of Marriage and Ordination. We recognize the dignity of each person, striving to be a more just and peaceful society. We recognize that stewardship is an integral part of our Christian mission and will commit ourselves to use resources in a wise manner. Something to think about: When preparing your estate, please consider St. Ann, your parish family, in your will. Your gift can help the parish continue Faith Community in the future. FR. LOU’S REFLECTION “An old concept of marriage will do well in our time” In our country, marriage isn’t what it used to be. Oh sure, people flock to priests and ministers, to rabbis and other clerics, to justices of the peace by the hundreds of thousands and they are married, both by God and the state--but so often, sadly, so often, many of them are ill-suited for marriage, causing far too many of them to end in divorce court, dissolving a relationship that perhaps never really started in the first place. When our Church talks about marriage, it is on the basis of honor and fidelity, of love and a total commitment that is life-lasting. In the Supreme Court decision of last week, rather, non-decision, which is a decision granting marriage privileges to people of the same sex, creating a tension for society and our Church that values the traditional one woman, one man as instrumental and fundamental as a family structure. We believe that a marriage based on the principle of respect and honor is manifested in its ability to procreate children. Our Church firmly believes that this was and is the intention of God in keeping the earth alive with offspring. The Church also sees the viability and the mandate of a father and a mother in rearing their offspring. Though some misfortune may take one or the other, the ideal of a man and a woman fits into the design formed at the beginning of time. Thus, for me and our Church, it is sacred; it is eternal; it is natural; it is God-centered. copyright, 2014, Lou Ruoff Pastoral Care Please Keep in Prayer Anna Marie Burgess, Nellie Jeannie Burgess, Heidi Gibson, Sylvia Hummel, Margaret Kimpel, John Mederios, Jeff Swift, Crystal Walker SAVE THE DATE— Women’s retreat, The Journey of Forgiveness, will be Saturday, October 25th. Dealing with the loss of a loved one is difficult at any time, but the pain of loss is often exacerbated around holiday time and special events in our lives. So many memories of happier times emerge and overwhelm us in sorrow. This workshop attempts to address the many sides of grief, the impact it has, and explore ways to live through the tough times. We will listen, have the opportunity to share what has been helpful, and what we find most challenging. We will also partake in a prayerful ritual near the end of our time together Sr. Kathy Persson is a Benedictine Sister and licensed Clinical Social Worker. She has spent many years working with those grieving the loss of loved ones and has been nationally certified as a grief counselor and is coauthor of Good Mourning. Please join us for a day of Reflection to deal with our losses. Lunch will be provided. There will be no charge for the day, donations will be accepted. If you would like to attend call Sr. Charlotte, 526-2548 or Jackie Hotz, 5263923 to register. CHRISTIAN FORMATION ELEMENTARY CHRISTIAN FORMATION: Sunday classes meet 9:45 – 11: 00 AM. MARTHA MINISTRY—Fifteen years ago a small group of women met to expand the ministry of pastoral care in our parish. One of the ministries that came from that meeting is the Martha Ministry which provides hospitality to families and friends following funeral liturgy. Many of the initial Marthas were retired women in the community who were available for daytime funerals. In the 15 years these women have aged, many of them have passed on themselves or are just getting tired of carrying this ministry. As a faith family, we cannot predict when the services of the Martha teams will be needed or how many funerals we might experience in a year. The original ten teams have been condensed to just five and three of those are in need of team leaders. Each team has historically been responsible for 2-4 funerals in any given year. We ask you now to consider whether this is a ministry that is of value to our faith family. If it is, what can you do to ensure its viability? The feedback from families who are recipients of this ministry is most appreciative and most positive, but without more help, it cannot continue. You are asked to pray for the future of this opportunity in our community. If through prayer you find yourself being called to serve as a team leader or a team member please contact Sr. Charlotte at 526-2548 for more information. Justice & Peace OUR DAILY BREAD FOOD PANTRY Our shelves are still in great need of help. We really need to all pull together to solve this problem. Please think about us while you are shopping and donate as much as possible so we can continue to serve our less fortunate. Shelves are still low on cereal, macaroni & cheese, and spaghetti sauce. Bath products are also very low, especially shampoo and toilet paper. Thank you for serving the Lord and One Another. PARENTS -Please watch that your children do not put rocks, leaves, etc. into the new fountain in the Memory Garden. These objects will plug the pump and break it. You should also know that chemicals are added to the water to control the algae. Thank you. Bulletin Deadlines FOR WEEKEND Oct. 19 Oct. 26 Nov. 2 Nov. 9 ANNOUNCE.
