International Congress Welcome Message 2012 вЂLiverpool is the pool of life, it makes to live’ Jung, Memories, Dreams, Reflections Jung dreamt of visiting Liverpool and seeing a magnolia tree in an island in a pool in the centre of the City. The dream led him to understand the healing function of the self and he recorded that вЂWithout such a vision I might perhaps have lost my orientation and been compelled to abandon my undertaking’. As a result a statue of Jung stands in Matthew Street in Liverpool. We welcome you to the International Congress in 2012 and to share in the inspiration and vision the city of Liverpool brings. As always our programme strives for scientific rigour and to lead the way in developing clinical excellence and promoting best practice. We are committed to ensuring that attendees leave with an improved understanding of psychiatry and mental health and the interactions between mental health, neuroscience and the social and cultural context in which people live. Jung’s idea that the ring represents the human being motivated de Coubertin to create the Olympic symbol of 5 interlocking rings. On this Olympic year we pay particular attention to the relationship between mental health and physical health with updates in new science, clinical skills and neurology. As always the Congress fee includes attendance at all sessions and workshops and all refreshments. We continue with the hugely popular trainees stream and the trainees coffee lounge will be open throughout the Congress. The Congress is eligible for both CPD and CME points. Jung described his dream visit to Liverpool as an act of evidence based education and enlightenment; enjoy! Helen Miller and Nick Craddock Co-chairs of the organising committee Comments and feedback The College will be tweeting all this week, giving regular updates on the latest news from the Congress. Thursday, 12 July 20.00 for 20.30 Gala Dinner Venue: St George’s Hall, St George’s Place, Liverpool, L1 1JJ Fee: ВЈ65. Spaces are limited so please speak to a member of staff at the registration desks to see if there is availability. St George’s Hall is widely regarded as one of the finest neo-classical buildings in the world and is a Grade I listed building. The idea for the Hall came about in the early 1800s from Liverpool people who were concerned about the lack of a place for the triennial music festivals, and shares were sold to raise funds. A venue was also being sought for the Civil and Crown Courts and it was decided that one building would serve both needs. The foundation stone of the Hall was laid in 1838 to commemorate the coronation of Queen Victoria, but the actual building of the hall did not start until 1842. It opened for public use in 1854, a truly multipurpose community building where people could be tried, attend a ball or listen to a concert - all under one roof. 4 Business Meetings Tuesday 10 July 17.30-19.30 International Divisions Meeting (Room 7, Level 3) Wednesday, 11 July 12.45-14.20 Psychopharmacology Special Interest Group Annual Meeting (Room 7, Level 3) 14.30-16.30 Publications Management Board Meeting (Room 6, Level 3) 15.00-17.15 Public Education Editorial Board Meeting (Room 7, Level 3) 17.30-18.30 Academic Faculty Executive Committee Meeting (Room 7, Level 3) 18.00-20.00 Publications reception (Riverside Balcony, Level 3) Thursday, 12 July 12.25-13.15 Centre for Advanced Learning & Conferences (CALC) Committee Meeting (Room 7, Level 3) 12.30-13.30 International Psychiatary Journal Editorial Board Meeting (Room 6, Level 3) 14.30-15.30 Trustee training (Room 7, Level 3) Friday, 13 July 12.45-13.40 International Congress 2013 Organising Committee Meeting (Room 6, Level 3) 12.45-13.40 Gay and Lesbian Mental Health Special Interest Group Annual Meeting (Room 7, Level 3) 5 Organising Committee Dr Kostas Agath Executive Committee Professor Sue Bailey President Professor Dinesh Bhugra International Liaison Professor Nick Craddock Treasurer and Conference Co-Chair Dr Ian Hall Executive Committee Dr Josie Jenkinson Trainee Representative Dr Ian Jones Executive Committee Professor Ania Korszun Executive Committee Dr Hamish McAllister-Williams Executive Committee Dr Laurence Mynors-Wallis Registrar Dr Helen Miller Director of Conferences and Conference Co-Chair Dr Anand Ramakrishnan Executive Committee Professor Peter Woodruff Executive Committee 6 Co-sponsoring Organisations American Psychiatric Association Egyptian Psychiatric Association European Psychiatric Association Indian Psychiatric Society Latin American Psychiatric Association Netherlands Psychiatric Association Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists Royal College of Psychiatrist of Thailand Spanish Association for Psychiatry World Psychiatric Association Pakistan Psychiatric Society Hong Kong College of Psychiatrists Declaration of Interest TC2 Training Course: Disorders at the interface of neurology and psychiatry - Part IV Clinical reviews- early onset dementias Dr Huw Morris has received funds for research, fees for consultancy and a fee for speaking at a symposium from an organisation(s) that might be perceived to gain or lose from the content of his presentation.
