All are invited to join us even if you haven’t been praying the Novena, it is still a special way to spend an hour on a Sunday. The image of Jesus, The Divine Mercy, is to have a special place of honour on the Feast of Mercy, a visual reminder of all that Jesus did for us through His Passion, Death, and Resurrection … and a reminder, too, of what He asks of us in return to trust Him and be merciful to others: "I want the image to be solemnly blessed on the first Sunday after Easter, and I want it to be venerated publicly so that every soul may know about it". At the request of her spiritual director, Saint Faustina asked the Lord about the meaning of the rays in the image. She heard these words in reply: "The two rays denote Blood and Water. The pale ray stands for the Water which makes souls righteous. The red ray stands for the Blood which is the life of souls. These two rays issued forth from the depths of My tender mercy when My agonized Heart was opened by a lance on the Cross ... Thank you for supporting Caritas Australia’s Project Compassion 2015 appeal. EASTER MESSAGE 2015 The giving of gifts as everyone knows is associated with Christmas. And yet it has increasingly become a feature of our Easter celebrations. More often than not, Easter gifts take the form of chocolate, and especially of chocolate eggs. The connection between Easter and the giving of eggs (chocolate or otherwise) is quite obvious: eggs are a symbol of new life and it is precisely new life which we commemorate through our celebration of the life, death and resurrection of Jesus. Jesus himself offers us an extraordinary gift. Each time we celebrate the Eucharist we unite ourselves with the prayer of the celebrant who, just before Holy Communion, prays: “Lord Jesus Christ, you said to your apostles, “Peace I leave you; my peace I give to you”.” This promise and this gift, offered to the Lord’s first disciples, continues to be offered to all of us today. It is the outpouring of God’s love released through the resurrection of Jesus to new life. It is the gift of his Spirit. May this Easter be a time when the new life of Jesus fills each one of us with hope, with joy, and with the special gift of his peace.
